Clicking sound from steering wheel?

Postby redkysolarase » Tue Jul 20, 2004 8:07 am

The time that I've went up there and talked to them they were kinda pissy with me. I guess they thought I was just some young punk askin a bunch of stupid questions but that's still no reason to be sarcastic.

Final Fix?

Postby DocJohn » Mon Jul 26, 2004 6:51 pm

Well, it took 5 days for Toyota to get a new spiral cable for my car and today I just got my Solara back from Toyota service where they installed the part. The clicking sound I first described is gone (at least for now).

The reason I can't be sure its completely and really fixed for good is because yesterday I installed my new OEM mud guards (they look great! :D). Anyway, while installing the front set of guards, I had to rack the steering wheel from lock to lock twice to get access to the front wheel wells. Much to my surprise, the next time I drove the car the clicking sound had now completely disappeared. I guess turning the wheel lock to lock a couple of time had corrected the problem in the spiral cable in some way (at least temporarily). No matter what, I was still going to have Toyota install the new spiral cable they ordered for me.

At any rate, I hope this problem is now gone for good and I can really start enjoying my new car.

ITS BACK!

Postby DocJohn » Wed Jul 28, 2004 6:58 am

The clicking in my steering is back as of this morning (Toyota's "fix" lasted one whole day!), so the car goes back to Toyota service yet again this afternoon. For those of you who have lost count, this will be my SIXTH visit to Toyota service for various problems since I bought the car on 7/1/04!

I have downloaded KY's "Lemon Law"; they get 3 more tries to fix this problem otherwise I will file a suit to get all my money back!

Good luck with that and keep us posted. I'm sorry to hear it's been such a pain and hope that they will honor the lemon law policy.

All fixed (I hope).

Toyota re-checked their repair/replacement of the spiral cable and put the front wheels on an alignment rack so they could turn the steering lock-to-lock about 100 times and check it all out. They said its all okay now.

It seems the clicking sound from the steering column when turning is gone. I haven't heard a "click" in 5 days now, so hopefully its fixed for good. We'll see...

Hey, do you have any pics? I'm curious about how the pearl black emblems look with the lunar mist.

Thanks!

The only problem is now that I've seen Michael's new mesh upper and lower grill combo (see posts on this), I'm thinking of trashing both of my grilles for one of his combo sets in black. Should look trick with the black pearl emblems and the lunar mist paint.

LOL. Very nice touch with the black pearl emblem. The more I see the black pearl emblem, the more I'm drawn to it. The pics look very nice as well. I like the front set up with the lower billet grille from ebay. I would have purchased the ebay grille as well, however they were not going to make an upper to match it, so I had to figure something else out. I knew that if I had waited for AM companies to R&D stuff; it'd be forever.

I think Toyota left the lower grille opening for aftermarket companies to finish...lol.

Well, I'm probably headin up to Louisville either before or after August 20th weekend. I may just head your way on the way back from Schaumburg, IL meet, if it's not too late. I'll let you know if I do.

I agree, the "hole" in the lower grille space looked so bad (empty) on the '04 Solara I thought a part was missing at first!

I bet you get quite a few grille orders when they see your car at the Schaumburg, IL meet.

If you're going to be coming through Louisville, let me know and I'll try meet-up with you.
