I'm thinking the conv's out of KY somehow had it worse.

I finally had the TSB applied today. HUGE difference; the car tries to be almost too aggressive so I am having to adjust to the new responsiveness.

Oh, the dealer has a new computer on order for my car. The service manager said there are several computers in the car and the throttle TSB caused code errors in the main computer, resulting in the check engine light, VSC light, and TRAC OFF lights to turn on.

Yep, the TSB is very clear that the procedure needs to be followed exactly, otherwise the ECU can be damaged. My dealer managed to completely fry the ECU on my 2004 while applying the TSB.

But if I remember right, you could not drive your car after your dealer's attempt at the TSB. At least I can drive mine and the only downside is there are three warning lights on until the new computer is installed. :)

That's true. I would have gladly driven with some extra warning lights just to enjoy the lag-less feeling. :D Enjoy your new ride!

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin. It is a suggested fix by Toyota, though they do not always actually fix the problem.

If you have a lag issue, just state the problems you are having to the service manager.

TSB TC006-05

Postby jig47 » Fri Oct 07, 2005 4:57 am

Ok--so I finally got my butt over to the dealer where I bought the car and complained about the throttle lag problem. They didn't know anything about it so I cheerfully handed over the 6 page TSB which explained how to recalibrate the ECM. The service advisor was cool and said he would staple the procedure to the work order so the tech would see it. When I picked up the car, the work order said TSB TC30001 :recalibrate ecm engine and transmission. Anyhow, the car seems more responsive now if I punch it and there also seems to be a little more torque. I do however still notice a little delay shifting between gears, although under light acceleration the shifts are pretty seamless. I guess what I am saying is the shifts are not 100% positive under heavy accceleration. I am thinking that the tech didn't apply the right TSB and now my car thinks it's a Sienna. BTW, the total shop fee was $55.35 for a total of 0.9 hours. If anyone can comment, I would appreciate it as something smells fishy.

Go to visit another Toyota Dealer

Postby dchev » Fri Oct 14, 2005 7:35 pm

Go to visit another Toyota Dealer. Ask them to apply TSB#TC006-05
They do not supposed to charge you anything. Everything is covered by car's warranty.
I had the same problem with my local dealer; however, I visited another dealer, and they applied the fix. The ride is much smooter, but as you said, it is not perfect. Toyota will probably come with another fix in the future.
I love the ride of my Solara '05. With or without the fix this is one excellent and fun car. This is a fact! :D

Well I went in for the fix and they "cooked" the computer!

I've got a free lexus "loaner" for about one week while they wait for the new ECM to get here. The car is not drivable at the moment.

I suppose the new ECM will already have the fix done at the factory.

 At least that's what I'm hoping.

^^^ Same exact thing happened to me (except I got a Corolla loaner instead of a Lexus). The ECU does not come programmed with the fix. Make sure the dealer applies the TSB after it reinstalls the ECU.

Wow .. seems like they are taking a big chance not doing the fix at the factory.

If they "cook" the second ECU they will need to give me the loaner for another week and order a third computer.

I take it they got the "fix" right the second time with you?

Did it make much difference?

(except I got a Corolla loaner instead of a Lexus)

The wanted me to take an Echo but I said I would prefer another Solara. They didn't have one so they offered the Lexus IS. To be honest I prefer my Solara. The lexus is sporty but very small inside, no leg room in the back seat at all. It's relatively noisy (tire growl) and the seats are so hard so you feel every single little bump in the road.
