Tiny Bumper Cuts

So the shittiest thing about living in ny is having to parallel park everywhere.

Today, trying to squeeze into a space, i got a couple of slight cuts on the back plastic bumper, the most significant of which is like right where the bumper angles inward toward the front of the car.

Anyone have any suggestions of how best to touch this up?

Sorry to hear that. If I parallel park, there's got to be plenty of space before I even attemp to park it. I can parallel park just fine, but since I've had this car with new rims and everything, I'm so cautious of where I park. Otherwise, I'd rather walk a mile.

Well, if it's a cut, then go to a body shop and have them give you an estimate. That's all I know to do. It's probably gonna run around $500 - $800. Good luck.

Ok...well, paying 500-800 dollars isnt going to make any sense - To keep stuff like this from happening in and around NYC is near impossible.

90% of the new cars around here are driving around w/ those ugly accordian looking glue on bumper protectors - I'll take a little cut over driving around w/ that fulltime.

I think i'm looking for more of the band-aid solution instead of full surgery i guess.

Yesterday (there was a problem with the first package , it was lost on Mail, so seller sent me another one), I received a Toyota original Touch-up Paint, good thing about it is that they match your car color perfectly, is the best way to fix those little scratches like my front bumper had.

I got it off Ebay, here it's one of the same seller's actual listings that can help you.

I can tell you, product is very very good, if you have a good hand, it can get fix very nicely.

The major problem here is that cars have plastic bumpers. When plastic gives, the paint doesn't therefore cracking it. I miss the good ole days with the metal bumpers that could crash it a wall with no problem. This is a major cosmetic problem that will be impossible to avoid until they start putting on old school bumpers again. It really sucks!

Thanks for the tip...I just bought one. I have a small scrape on my front bumper and two that are the size of a pin head on my trunk. I've heard these pens are much easier to use than the old brush style system.

Why not try the langka system for smoothing out the nicks in your paint. I tried this method and the area I touched up are not noticeable at all.

I checked out http://www.langka.com/nfnews.htm their site and it's interesting. I've got a paint chip on my hood from a freaking rock and touch up paint was okay, but the Langka stuff seems like it blends it to match better. I wonder if I can get this stuff locally. If this stuff works, then it's the paint miracle that i've been searching for. Has anyone else used this stuff?

Actually Langka is hard to find. I had to order online. You can usually find mothers paint chip repair locally. It basically uses the same technology as Langka. Actually it's really the same product, but with mothers name on it. Both are really good stuff. Mothers is cheaper though.

Whatever you do don't apply the touch up paint with that god awful brush that comes with it. I find a toothpick or matchstick cut at an angle to apply the paint works better and is not messy.

Thanks for the tip...according to their website it is mail order only. I found the Mother's for $13.95 @ Autobarn.com & $11.99 @ midwayautosupply.com. I just ordered the Mother's version and their clay bar kit. I took advantage of the tip from Gyaf above and bought the touch up pen earlier today. At least I'll be somewhat prepared for future chips.

Just a question, why would you buy touch up paint from ebay and pay shipping when the dealer sells it for $5 per bottle? I just picked mine up while I was there. :-?

Simply because where I live I just can dream of order one of those touch-up pen. So for me $14.95, and receive it via e-mail is better that take a plane and go to one of the states to pick one, or even bother one of my family members that live in the states to go to a Toyota Dealer and pick up one for me and then send it to me.

But one question, What do you get in a Dealer, a bottle with the old brush applier, or a bottle to fill up these pens?
