My car got keyed!!!

My car got keyed!!!

Postby slingshot » Sat May 29, 2004 3:53 pm

Decided to go to Fleet Week in Manhattan today and drove in. Figured four bucks in a parking meter on the street for four hours is better than 20-30 bucks in a garage. I had a great time seeing the ships. When I got back what I found was a very long (few feet) key'ed scratch on the passenger rear section from in front of the tire to halfway down rear light. It looks like it went all the way through the paint! Boy, did I feel like keying the guy's face that did this!! First time this ever happened to me on any car I've owned.

Has anyone had this happen to them and is it possible to have it fixed enough to not see it? Anyone from Long Island here that can recommend a really good shop? What is the best type of place to have it fixed? I'm wondering if silver can be matched real well.

Can't believe this happened,
Dave

My friend had his car keyed in Highschool - he was able to compound the scratch and get it out - and then repainted it, waxed it.

As far as matching the paint - you should be able to order matching paint from toyota somehow.

Good luck man - that sucks - I park in manhattan all the time - and as ridiculous as it is, I bite the bullet and pay for the garage.

Hey QBallTBEB,

This is off the subject of this thread. I noticed your signature says 'Pearl White,' and I was wondering how you got that color, because mine says 'Artic Frost Pearl?'

Thanks,
Michael
:D

Back to the thread...
Hey Dave,

Sorry to hear bout your misfortune. That's ashame, hope you get it fixed and a good bodyshop should do a good job and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Atleast, you didn't get any hit and run incident. That happened to me with my '95 Mazda MX-3. Right in the freaking parking lot and my alarm went off and they were gone; they left a big freakin' dent, the size of a basketball, right on the driver side, pass the door. I was PISSED. But what can you do, but hope it doesn't happen again.

Wish you the best,
Michael

Wouldn't ya just love to catch the A**hole in the act. I wouldn't even call the cops, I'd do justice right there, like put his hand under the tire and slowly back over it till ya hear the bones cracking.
Sorry to hear about that. You have A'holes everywhere not just in N.Y.
Good luck on getting fixed.

Slingshot,

First, let me say how bad I feel for you. I've been fortunate to never have a car I've owned keyed, but I know how I'd feel if it did happen...sick to my stomach.

Secondly, while I'm sure you're angry with the pea-brain who did this and would like to lay some medieval sh!t on him, I am impressed with your attitude. Rather than wallowing in thoughts of vengeance, you've moved on to getting your car repaired. Good for you! I wish I could be that rational.

Let us know how the repairs go. Will your insurance cover it? If not, I'll send some money your way to help with getting it fixed.

Thanks for the support. My anger lasted only a short time because I was having a really fun, cool day otherwise and didn't just want to cut it short and wallow in anger and drive home. I just went back to seeing the ships and enjoyed myself. Can't get any vengeance if I have no clue who did it anyway. I was just looking at Acura CL and TL forum websites and they have so many keying stories, it's unbelievable. Sounds like an epidemic out there. I only know one guy at work who got keyed.

Unfortunate for me, I think there is almost no chance of buffing my scratch out and it will have to be repainted.

I have to agree, what goes around, comes around.

I used to have a 95 Cobra, which I adored, and one day I came out of my job, which ironically at the time I was a body shop manager, I found that someone had hit my car, and demolished my passenger side headlight, parking light, and fender. I never did find out who did it, and with the job I had at the time, I got it fixed for about $20 in materials costs, but it still did not ease the pain or anger.
