NAV gadgets/mods...

Hey all,

I've had my 04 Solara/NAV for a few months and I'm very happy with it all around. However, it's always nice to have more gadets. After some research on the 04 Solara NAV unit, it seems it is possible to buy a backup camera that displays the image when you put the car in reverse. It's plug & play, but the camera is only available from Toyota in Japan. Some guys on the Sienna message board have done it(w/Solara nav UPGRADES).

Besides the camera, it seems our NAV supports voice control using a Toyota microphone add-on. Again, it's plug & play with the Toyota microphone and switch.

And last but not least, the pinouts for the Solara NAV are available on the Sienna club message board. Some guys have gotten video input to work, but they needed an RGB to NTSC converter. Other than that, it's just a matter of plugging into the right pins.

I'm hoping to do take advantage of some of these "hidden" features but I'm wondering if anyone here has done the same?

The Sienna and 4Runner guys have been quicker to mod their cars(using a Solara NAV) than we are, and we already have the NAV!

best regards,
Brian

hehe and as an '03 4runner owner running the solara nav...it's SWEEET!

However, we're running into some issues. getting some of the things to work 100% correctly. What we're in need of is for an enterprising solara owner to give us the model numbers of their amp (a picture of the label'd be great!). We're looking to get the service manuals for the 04 solara amp w/ nav, so if you have one of these factory installed and wouldn't mind digging down and getting at the amp, we'd appreciate it!!

Here's one of the threads of interest: http://www.siennaclub.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=3329&st=210&hl=

And, for those that are interested, here's a link to the "gallery" entry for my 4runner: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3966

I have a question about the NAV unit since I never owned one. Is there a monthly fee for using a satelitte for the NAV like with satelitte radio?

Brian: just sent you the email...lemme know if you don't get it. there's a .zip file (~850K) attached

mattyboyl: yes, if you have the xm radio option, then you ahve to pay the satellite fee for that receiver. but if you just have a navigation unit, then there's no fee for that (other than up front costs of buying the system). the xm option's just a module that plugs onto the back of the nav unit that supports the xm radio and allows a xm antenna to be installed.

Disclaimer: I do not have the xm radio option (don't want it). I don't want another thing I have to pay a monthly fee for. 'sides, I prefer just playing a cd of what I want to hear...

I'm the one that has Solara Nav in Sienna with the plug&play back-up camera. and YES, all I had to do was just plug that one connector to the back of the Solara NAV head unit and done.

Anyway, just a few questions on Solara NAV in a Solara...

--------------------
I have a brand new OEM 2004 Solara Navigation unit ($1575) installed in my 2004 Sienna with 10 speaper JBL surround AMP.
I was just wondering if anyone who has 2004 Solara with NAV can verify the following for me since there are quite a few of us Sienna owners looking for a better solution besides mod/add-on we alreayd did like the voice command mic ($50 OEM toyota part) & plug&play back-up camera (Eclipse BEC103 $185 made by FujitsuTen who also makes Solara NAV unit) & playing DVD on NAV, & XM & looking for a way to integrate BlueTooth.

1. which version does 2004 & 2005 solara MAP dvd?
you can get this in Diag Mode. should say something like Denso 5640.... Map disc v 4.1.14
2. when it gives voice guidance to tell you to make a turn, does it MUTE the whole system or just the left front speaker?
3. In diag. mode, there are 2 options greyed out on mine.
BT voice & Back guide monitor- can someone verify what back guide montior is and if it's enabled if so, what it does?

Thanx much,
2004 Sienna XLE AWD

Handsfree voice control and Bluetooth

Postby crazygreek » Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:41 am

it seems our NAV supports voice control using a Toyota microphone add-on

Does anyone know where to find this or how to install this item. Also, Can we add bluetooth to the radio for our car as well?

What about this bluetooth option people were talking about. IS that related to the TEL. option in the service display that I found when I went to overide my nav controls. Is that part of the bluetooth feature, or something else. Would love to get bluetooth working in my ride if anyone has any thoughts on that.

Also hooking up the voice module, that allows me to program my nav while I am driving with verbal commands, right?

Did you get what you needed? I have the JBL-noNav, but I think the rest of the system is the same. Amp is by the ECU. I have the EWD and manuals if you need other info. (Though volume 3 is on loan... not sure if that'll be an issue.)
