anyone have the 4 cylinder?

i was just wondering how weak it's performance is. i really want a 6 cylinder but i'm stuck with the 4 since i want a stick shift. i'll be coming from a a 100hp saturn, so i was wondering what my expectations should be. i'll be test driving soon, just curious though.

if there are any obvious performance mods for the 4 cylinder i'd be interested in hearing about those too.

btw nice forum you got here...

I drove the 4-Cyl 04 Solara... I own a 02 4-Cyl Solara.

The increased weight of the 04 (200-300 lbs?) made the 4-cyl VERY sluggish compared to my 02 (same engine). It's not HORRIBLE, but if you can afford the V6, I'd tell you to get it.

Good luck (I don't think there are any 04 i4 owners for that reason I stated)

The 2AZ has a supercharger coming from what I have read. Other than that, I am not sure what’s going on with the platform. The word is the new Scion will have one, so that should increase aftermarket support for the motor :D.

On a side note I will probably try to get a 2005 w/2AZ-FE in August of 2005 (when my current car is paid off :D).
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

i just picked up one of the 4 cylinders over a month ago. i've had no problem with it...i had a 2004 honda accord coupe, also a 4 cylinder, for a month before that. the solara actually performs better then the accord did. of course, i did own a 2000 kia sportage before both of those...so anything's a step up from that :D

I test drove the 4 cylinder before buying the 6 cylinder. The 4 cylinder is no slouch and I wouldn't call it slow but I preferred as much power as I could get.

i was comparing it to the same engine in a 200-300 lb lighter car, that's why it felt sluggish... maybe it isn't? =x

Your right - but the 04 didn't quite gain that much flab - The base 02 auto's from the factory are 3130lbs and the 04's are 3230lbs - add some stuff and your up there

i have the 04 4cylinder

compare to my sister's 03 altima 2.5 and my friend's impreza rs, solara's 2.5 engine is really not as strong. but to me it's still worth the money, since all i do is daily commute, goto school, gym, pick up groccery and stuff. and don't worry it's not THAT slow, it's still a good engine, i have no trouble accelerating to a certain speed within expected time interval. not to mention the cost and mileage you save

i noticed that. cerritos rang a bell, i'm from that area.

i'm also paying attention to the scion tC. it comes with an optional 200hp engine with stick shift. i saw it a the la auto show but it looked really small. the solara definitely wins in the looks dept. it really reminds me of that lexus coupe...

my exclusive crappy pic of the tc:
