The Convertible is here...
Toyota developed the second-generation Camry Solara Convertible, as well as its coupe counterpart, in a speedy 19 months. Unlike the first-generation convertible, which was an afterthought that required chopping the top off the coupe and retro-fitting it with a soft-top, the new car features a dedicated convertible body that needed zero chopping and retro-fitting. With a reinforced body for better torsional rigidity, the new drop-top comes with a power-operated, fully lined top with a glass window. On sale this March, the Solara Convertible will be available in SE and SEL trims, both of which are powered by a 3.3-liter, 225-horsepower V-6 mated to a five-speed automatic with manual mode. A rear spoiler and 17-inch wheels will be standard. Toyota promises that the new convertible—which will be assembled at Toyota’s Georgetown, Kentucky, plant—will be a better value than its predecessor, so expect pricing to start around the current V-6 car’s tag of $28,560.
