It's just random flames rising from a MISUNDERSTANDING
I think I clearified what I said, but I can't help it if others say things.

I like the Gen 2, but the TRD package didn't seem to add much.

Others have their opinions, but you're right.... it's getting pretty old =\

Now that I've seen the TRD version, I once again really don't like it...J/K!! Actually, I happen to like it and I do agree with Mr. Shoe. Same goes for someone who has a certain mod on their car that people don't like, and then everytime they post a pic of a different mod or something people have to remind that person that they don't like this or that. I think we should make a rule that you can only make a negative comment once per person per subject matter.

I agree Shoe. From certain posters (none from this thread so far), it's beginning to be obvious that their "justification attempts" are nothing more than jealous bashing.

I can say much about my personal dislikes about certain Solaras I've seen on this board. I won't mention any names, but it's funny to read posts about Gen 2 bashing by certain posters, and then you click on their cardomain links and see their cars and think "...and you're bashing the '04?" But, I don't bash because each owner has their own preference and taste.

I'm just on here to get knowledge, share knowledge, and interact with genuine Solara enthusiasts. As for the flamers, I just chuckle...I guess it comes from certain age groups.

Anyhow, peace and love to fellow GENUINE Solara enthusiasts. Don't let them get to you Shoe!

I think they are entitled to their opinions, but that said, I don't go into the gen 1-1.5 forum and post my distaste for its styling in multiple posts. Someone should have made a "styling poll", and all styling comments should have been relegated to that thread.

I am tired of hearing "the back end looks like an SC, and I never liked that (or something to that effect). Yes, the back end of my car from a distance is indistinguishable from a $65K car that I happen to like the styling of. The styling was one of the primary reasons I bought the car.

Nothing to do with this forum, but sort of on topic anyway..

Some guy pulled along side me today this morning on the way to work, rolled down his window and told me that my car looks sleek and mean from the front, but fat and wimpy from behind.

What was he driving? Something called an Aero.

I have no idea who makes that car, and I'm not usually one to bash anybodys ride...But for someone driving what looks like a shoe box on bicycle tires to make a comment like that just made me shake my head, give him the "L" for loser sign and leave him in the dust.

For whatever it's worth though, this was the very first negative comment I've gotten in my 3 weeks of Solara ownership. Quite a few other comments from strangers though, all of them very positive.

Personally, I love the look of this car from all angles.

Solara Generation Gap

Postby Joey_B » Thu Dec 04, 2003 10:01 pm

I've always been a coupe owner, but my former job in a former city required a comfy sedan for buisness reasons. Now that things have changed, I decided to go back to my true love, coupes.

I think highly of Toyotas, but the previous gen Solara (although an excellent car) never really caught my eye.

Not so with the 04.

My first impression was that the styling was a little bizarre, especially the much talked about "rear end". But as I drove by my local dealer each day, the car really grew on me, a LOT. If cars are your love, the Solara is like the one you fall for on the fourth date, after thinking the first date was a flop. It takes a while to see the beauty of this one.

The new Solara manages to avoid a neutral response. I'm guessing that's what Toyota wants. It's not for everyone, but it does turn heads. Remember when Ford came out with the egg-shaped Taurus and how weird it looked. It was a huge seller.

I can't wait to pick up my 04 SLE V6 this weekend. And if anyone comments on my rear-end, I'll get their phone number.

In person, the rear does looks good though. FOr some reason, a good number of the pix don't do it justice at all

If it was a Suzuki Aerio, he should have kept his windows up, they are the styling equivalent of a roller skate.

Definatly, it's as taller than it is wide, looks like it'll tip over on a sharp turn.

Our cars rock

Postby grizay » Mon Dec 08, 2003 7:06 pm

If some dude in a car made by a company that should stick to crappy motobikes pulls up and talks smack about my '04 SE Sport, I'd be hard pressed not to bitch slap him. Aside from the ribbing of co-workers (I work for a aftermarket web company) that the Solara (spoken with a lisp) is for girls, I have gotten nothing but great feedback from friends and family and long looks from other motorists and peds. By the way, when I took delivery, I found out my co-workers hadn't even seen the Gen II. They're opinions changed once I drove everyone to lunch.

Honestly, in the original press pictures I really didn’t like it (I think it was the red color too bright for me). However, have seen one in person now I think that there is some major potential there! With some lowering gear and some different wheels I would drive one :), especially with the rumored 2AZ supercharger :D.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

i found that my gen2 looks extremely sexy if viewing from up to down, park your gen2, and goto the building next to it, looking down from let's say 2, 3rd floor, it looks so good looking down to it,i dunno why, oh also, when it's park ALONE, let's say, at the back corner of a huge parking lot where no cars are around it at night, it iwll look sexy too. tyr it
