the only test I know of is the Car and Driver one - they got 0-60 for 6.9s and low 15s for a 1/4 mile

Motor Trend has it clocked at 15.0 in the 1/4 mile going (don't quote me on this one) 93 mph! The car is no slouch! The car has more than adequate power. A supercharger would make this thing run with the popular sports cars like the Z and Honda S2000. Ok, maybe close. More like running over the V-6 Altimas and V-6 Honda Accords. I think a supercharger would put us somewhere between a Nissan Z's time and a Honda Accord's 1/4 mile time. My opinion of course. What do you guys think?

I think stock it is on par with the accord in 1/4 mile times and here is why

1- Honda automatics are power robbers ( around 22% )

2- their HP #s are inflated ( saw a v6 accord dyno at 182 at the wheels and should have been around 192 )

3- NO torque for the honda v6 means slower off the line

BTW the honda s2000 is way overated in terms of speed and power... agian they overstated thier figures and I saw a built up s2000 fail to crack the 200 hp figure... but it is light and nimble

I would suspect that if you put a S/C on the 3.3 Solara you would run low 14's and push close to 260 ( at the wheels )... my car dynoed at 196hp stock ... what impressed me most was the fact that most cars lose between 15-25% of their power in their tranny... this new 5spd auto seemed to only lose around 13%... which to me makes it seem pretty effecient

get Car & Driver for example:
2003 Accord EX V6 3.0 V-6/5A 0-60 7.80s, 1/4 mile 15.70s
2002 3.5 SE 0-60 7.30s, 1/4 mile 15.60s
both slower than Solara results (0-60 7.0s)

I am talking about the 2004 Accord and Altima. Yes, the 5 speed is obviously faster. But the Accord and Altima I believe is still a bit faster ewven in automatic form. It may be a race of driver vs. driver. You guys brought up a good point about our powertrain loss. Someone said 13% loss with 196hp at the wheels. Please post that, because that is amazing! Auto trannys usually lose alot of hp & torque at the powertrain. I have noticed that Toyota's have what I always refered to as a "bullet-proof tranny". I see our Solara's run with GTP's with 260 hp and Accord's with 240 hp and Altima's with 240 hp. I also believe that a SC would bring us in the low 14's which is why I stated we would be running with the Zs and S2000s and maybe a few auto V-8 Firehawks.

EVERY race is driver vs driver...

NON of these cars are race cars by any stretch of the imagination... not even boosted!!! I found find it hard to believe that anyone in here bought the solara because it was "fast"... If a guy in an accord or altima pull next to me and want to race I think I may laugh my ass off... that would be as funny as my buddy trying to race my ducati with his harley...

both slower than Solara results (0-60 7.0s)

dont trust the magazines. I have an accord and a member of v6p.net (mostly accords, but all people welcome especially people with V6 engines)

the 03' Accord V6 run stock at low 15's. Some guy with just a intake on the 03 V6 auto ran i believe it was a 14.9. So those car magazines were wrong or just got a slow car. Stock ones do generally low 15's-mid 15s.

Road and Track:

0-60 in 6.6 seconds
1/4 mile at 15.0
MPH 94.1

That's on an '04 Solara SE Sport. I've owned a ton of cars, and believe me, this car with an auto is going to easily take care of most drivers in "manual sports cars". If a stick, say a G-35 6-speed for an example, can run 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, you'd have to drive it PERFECT to keep up with a guy in an auto that can run the 6.6 seconds over and over again.

They tested an S2000 and said they could get it in the upper 5 second 0-60 range but only with a perfect launch. They regularly got low to mid 7 second runs to 60. Either too much spin or not enough revs.

At the 1/4 mile track, a manual has a better shot than on the street as you can sit with the revs at a perfect spot, and try to be consistent with your shifts. But on the street??? Forget it, an auto Solara that is a second slower will have a good chance at any stick.

Of course I don't condone street racing, but man, 0-50, this thing is WAY quicker than it should be!!!
