what are you guys towing with a solara?

what are you guys towing with a solara?

Postby wkbrdr91 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:12 pm

Today at work, i noticed a odd amount of solara's in the parking lot (at a grocery store, so its not big) there was 5 Gen2 solaras, and 2 gen1 solaras. Now the weird thing is i saw a trailer hitch on a 2008 SLE convertible (didnt say V6 but i think all SLE convertibles are).

So my question is... what are you guys towing with a solara???

We used to tow our waverunner with our 1991 legend coupe and it did fine.

We used to tow a 16 foot Wellcraft with our Lexus ES300... had the suspension system replaced twice (one for each time we towed it) on that one.

So what could you possibly tow with a solara? it would be nice to be able to tow my Yamaha XLT800 (3 seater waverunner) to the beach every now and then without using the truck :)

haha why even bother doing that? Nobody knows what a solara is, so when im at parties and people see my car and need rides home or whatever i just say i have a 2 door car and im taking someone else home, and they dont ask anymore questions.

People put tow hooks in my city to keep horrible drivers from parking too close and messing up your bumper. They think twice and keep your distance.

^^^ thats why i keep my trailer hitches on my trucks. I got rear-ended a couple days ago, and it did nothing to my car because of the trailer hitch, but the other guy got a nice little hole in his hood.

My hood got messed up from someone's tow hitch.

They backed into my car when it was parked in a parking lot.

I removed the tow hitch as soon as my RX300 arrived. I know that towing is damaging the tranny. And the hitch itself weighs like another passenger. If I needed to tow something I would get a truck with manual gearbox.

^No man, autos are just as capable for towing as manuals. They just have to be setup right. Look at the newer over the road trucks, all autos. Just need to be setup for it, the same is true for a manual, if it isn't setup to tow you'll just burn up clutches.

Back on topic, I would not be caught dead with a tow hitch on my Solara, but in the owner's manual it does show a towing capacity and max. tongue weight for a trailer.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

Whatever, towing is for trucks. But to each his own. Waverunners are cool at least.

I'm just kidding, of course. I'm not that selfish. I love to TOW
my friends around and impress them with my car. I love the way
they respect my ride because the know how much I care for it.
But, seriously, I cannot imagine towing anything beyond the back
of the car because I already have trouble seeing the back of the
car. I've even considered a backup camera, but the one I looked
at required replacing my backup mirror and the back tag frame
(the camera is in the tag frame), and I don't want to replace either
one. So, if it doesn't fit in the trunk, it doesn't go with me. Jimmm
