A/C drain hose?

A/C drain hose?

Postby cynix » Sat Jun 27, 2009 4:29 pm

Hey guys,

I know I'm an idiot, but I can't find the drain hose on my lara even with the factory manual
My a/c started smelling really bad, and I bought myself one of those foamy A/C evaporator cleaners in a can (hate to pay $100 for the $10 job), the one with the long clear silicone hose that's supposed to go up through the drain (by the way, I can totally recommend this stuff - it's awesome. It's kind of hard to find, google for Interdynamics Odor Eliminator, the partnumber is OE1).

I've done this before at least three times on different cars (two of which were toyotas), and I don't remember that finding the hose was ever a problem.
Anybody done this before? where is that well-concealed hose? :o

See this pdf for everything A/C: http://cns-design.ru/files/solara/pdf/Air%20Conditioning.pdf

Just search the term "drain". A few of the diagrams should give you an idea... esp. pg. 145

I thought if you just change the small air filter behind the glove box would fix the smelling issue?

I replace the filter every 6 months, and it doesn't fix the problem at all.

I had the same smell issue on my old 1994 Toyota Carina ED (JDM RHD) back in the days -- it didn't have a filter so all the leaves and debris went right into the vents.
When my evaporator died (there was a small puncture in it) and I replaced it with another one, the old one was sooo gross - it had almost a compost pile on it, it was so bad you could almost grow mushrooms on it.
It wasn't as bad as this one, but pretty close:

So only filling the evaporator housing with heavy-duty antibacterial foam helps this problem, at least for a while (usually lasts for about a year). Of course the best solution would be to take out the evaporator and clean it physically, but the labor would be UNGODLY expensive.
