Why can't i see the top of my speedometer?

Why can't i see the top of my speedometer?

Postby fzzyrn » Mon Apr 20, 2009 4:02 pm

I'm about 5'11'' and when i drive, it can't see the top of my speedometer from about 45mph to 120mph. it's really quite inconvenient. My seat is all the way back and on the lowest setting. Is there something i'm doing wrong?

You can adjust the height of your steering wheel (I'm assuming that is what is blocking your view).

I'm 6 foot, also drive with the "gangsta" lean (think living room recliner) and I can see all the gauges in all their glory. But I also lower the lower the seat ALL THE WAY vertically down (manual) and I drive with the telescoping steering wheel positioned all the way into the dash which may or may not be your problem. The only bad thing is that you can't drape your wrist over the top of the steering wheel and are mostly holding it at the sides and bottom to steer. Also, all the hot minivan MILF's checkin' me out from the next lane mistakenly think I'm 5-foot-1. :(

yes the steering wheel blocks my view, but it's fully out and full up. I drive slightly forward, though.

I'm 6'4 and have the wheel all the way out and up far enough to see the speedo but still steer with my knees if I need to. Seat is all the way down in the rear and up in the front with a littl tilt on the back. I have looking for a way to relocate the steering wheel stop to extend it another few inches. It looks like the sliding part has a big cast collar that hits the frame mounted under the dash and would require major surgery though to still be safe.

Another issue is the stupid visor sitting too low and blocks the stop lights. I have had it removed for over a year and have conceeded to drive with a cap on when driving into the sun. I think it's time to tint the top of the glass to about the level the blocker stops behind the rear view mirror.

Yep being tall can be vertically challenging as well, but I still fit in the Solara with plenty of room for my taste.

it really is quite strange then that my view is obstructed. I must do more research on this.

Actually I was wrong about the telescoping steering wheel--I ALSO have it completely extended out, not in.

It's gotta be the seatback angle....

Extend the telescoping steering wheel, then tilt back. Push the sit a bit forward and recline seat a bit. I'm 6'0" and don't have that issue, unless I tilt the steering wheel back down.

It doesn't make sense.

That is something VERY important to consider as one adjusts their seating position... "Hmm, will that MILF that I am guarenteed to see at every stoplight see me at a flattering angle or a very abnormal angle. "

I'm 6'3" and I don't even notice if I can't see from where I'm sitting in the seat. I'll take a look tomorrow.
