rear seats and system fire

rear seats and system fire

Postby Solara08861 » Thu Dec 25, 2008 11:19 am

X-mass eve I came home from work and did not realize that there was something wrong with my system. Later on the night went to get something out of the car and noticed that the inside of the car was real foggie so when I open the door it was real smokie inside and stunk like burn. 2 of my 4 10" rear woofers were fried and burn. A lot of fire damage on the back of the car.

Here are some pics of the damage. Will get pics of the woofers when they get removed on Monday.

The driver side rear seatbelt assembly also melted.

This is how it looked before the fire.

Do you have cloth or leather seats? You could get them off of the bay.

Wont find out until we take everything out.

I know the bottom part of the rear seat is easy to take out but has anyoe here removed the folding part of the rear seats?

Those seats arent even for a Gen 1 Solara. The rear seats in the gen 1 doesnt have head rests like that. Regardless, the rear seats arent too hard to come off. Pull them down and use a socket wrench to take them out. How did it catch on fire to begin with.

Seats are very easy to take out. not bolts or screwdrivers needed. There is a latch holding them in at the middle attached to the lower bracket. Just hold the release and they will come out. Consult the factory service manual for more info and pictures.

yeah those seats are out of a camry I think. Gen 1's don't have an armrest back there or the headrests.

Damn, that ain't good to hear, I'm glad it didn't total the car. New back seats from dealerships are usually sold as an assembly (pad, cover, back frame, headrest, etc.) and, unfornately, they rack up the charges individually the same way. You're better/cheaper off finding somebody selling the whole set out of another Gen 2. Good luck.

Good googly moogly! And I'm not talking about the fire damage, I'm talking about your setup! I like how you set the four 10-inch speakers on the rear deck. Those woofers look menacing, I can't even imagine what it would FEEL like bumpin' some music with an 808 kick drum in it. I think I have too many fillings in my teeth to put a setup like that in my 'Lara.   Again, damn shame about the fire but as a "bass head" I have to give you props on the nice setup though. Hope you get your baby back to thumpin' soon.
