maintenance help

Postby shobo » Wed Aug 15, 2007 12:06 pm

model: 2004 toyota solara SE

So I just hit 106,000 miles on my Gen2 solara...I think I am the first one to hit this much....the beast is still running strong but I wanted to know what kind of preventive maintenances I should look into? I never replaced, changed or serviced any parts in my solara except the brakes which is why I'm thinking of changing the spark plugs and getting my AC serviced. Anyone out there willing to list a few maintenance jobs I should do? I don't want my solara to break down all of a sudden due to negligence. Shed some lights...im pretty worthless.

well toyota's timing belts should be replaced at about 100k. Your spark plugs should be fine unless your looking to go with iridium plugs like NGK or something.

shobo,

By now you should have replaced your timing belt, inspected a lot of other parts and you're now due for your first spark plug change (that'll be fun).

While the maintenance schedule doesn't specify it I've always replaced my water pump at the same time as the timing belt (because you already have everything off the engine so can reach it, why do it all twice).

You'll find the factory service manual maintenance schedule here: http://www.gadgetjq.com/solara/maint_schedule.htm You'll want to go back to the 90,000 mile mark for items that 'should' have been done then.

Cheers
