2006 Solara Cabin Smell

2006 Solara Cabin Smell

Postby radmanGTO » Sun Mar 18, 2007 7:25 pm

Over the past many cool/cold mornings here in E Tennessee, my Solara has generated an early startup smell that has ranged from metallic to whatever. It lasts only a few minutes and does not reaccur until next startup. I've changed the cabin filter with a Toyota brand and that didn't seem to clear it up.

I Just had it in Saturday for some warranty work, which included a blowoff of the hesitation issue saying the TSB TC006-05 given was not applicable to my 'Lara.

They did diagnose and do maintainance on flushing the evaporator case. Just thought I'd pass that along to those with the same smell-like issues. We'll see if that ends the smell issue.

Radman

I had a similar problem when I first got my car.

It turned out to be my A/C. I would keep it on max. When I parked the car, I didn't give it time to go through a "shut down" procedure. That it to say that you should turn the A/C off but keep the fan going for a little while to eliminate any moisture in the ducts. The moisture would collect and mold would grow in the ducts.

Not sure if its the same problem with you. Its a little early to be running the A/C unit.

Hi there -

Okay - it's unrelated to your posted topic, but still a serious issue you brought up and Toyota needs to HEAR FROM YOU about the throttle lag - taken from another post:

Check out these threads... this topic has been exhaustively discussed here...

http://solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=28010

...and it's not just the accel - it's the sloppy tranny...

http://solaraguy.org/viewtopic.php?t=27618

Our only recourse at this point is to call this number and open a complaint case:

Call The Toyota Customer Experience Center 800-331-4331 and complain about the issue and state that its actually dangerous!!

Please do call and complain - it only takes a couple minutes and you'll go on record stating the issue. It's dangerous and just because some don't experience it doesn't make it any less important.

Oh - and good luck getting rid of the smell! ;)

All ... the smell my Solara was generating had nothing to do with AC use. In fact, it became apparent this past many weeks that the smell was only being generated when the startup temps were below 50 degrees and the the system requiring heat. During the late spring, summer and early fall, I never have the smell. Go figure .....

I plan to followup with the TSB hesitation issue ....

Thanks for the replys,
Radman
