Extended Warranty

Extended Warranty

Postby Jack Soulfire » Wed Oct 26, 2005 2:17 pm

A post by SPF 0 sparked an idea in my head. I purchased the 100,000 mile extended warranty and am wondering what types of modifications could possibly void it?

It covers the OEM stuff, not the aftermarket. Example, if you have a moderately tricked out car and something happens to say... The ECU as a manufacturer's defect and the Alpines you have stashed in your trunk. Toyota would pay for the ECU, but the sound system is covered by Alpine's own warranty UNLESS you bought the car with them in place.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for that ext. warranty?
I was solicited by my service dept to add the 100k warranty (i'm at 27k right now) and he was saying I could get it for $950 if I do it before I hit 30k.

Thanks.
Matt.

That price is a steal since it normally costs that price or more for an extended 70K miles warranty from Toyota.

For the best package (the 100,000 mi, no year limit, roadside asst. etc) I kept saying no and that I wouldn't buy it no matter what until the salesman said that he'd discount all of the commission out of it (which I still doubt), and got it down to $800.00.

:D

PS - I'm also very aware that the ext. warranty doesn't cover aftermarket parts. I was only concerned about accidentally voiding it.

I'll try to get it lower

I thought $950 seemed high, but i don't know the ext. warranty market too well. It should be negotiable so it can't hurt to try. I would get it immediately at $800...i have an '04 with a list of TSB's that have had to be applied(again and again until they got it right).

From my experience, yes. I wasn't even offered an ext. warranty when i was going through the purchase process. They just happen to mention it to me during a routine(far too routine) TSB fix.

i was thinking about cancelling my extended warranty to try and make my monthly payments less but if i wanted to cancel they would only put the money towards the principle. so no refund or less monthly payments.

Mossy Toyota (Pacific Beach-San Diego) offered me extended for $950, as long as I'm under 30k miles.
