My door panels are pealing! Is this a common problem?

Postby SimplyRedSolara2004Sport » Sat Oct 30, 2004 9:21 am

I bought my Solara a year ago and have had very few problems with my car. I had the passenger window extend beyond the roof line, and the tire pressure light go off twice only (one day after the first time) so I thought I was lucky compared to what I've seen here.
I just noticed that my door panel is pealing right where I rest my arm and where I grab the door to close it while sitting on the driver's seat.
Who has the same problem? This is covered under warranty, RIGHT?

Can you post a photo of the peeling problem you are experiencing? It may help if we can see what you are describing.

Everything is covered under warranty!

Postby Animal » Sun Nov 07, 2004 12:00 pm

My dealer told me that *everything* is covered the first year - even light bulbs.
I haven't heard of anyone else experiencing the same problem, but I would definitely take it in as warranty work. The dealer gets reimbursed by Toyota for both labor and parts, so they should not give you a hard time.
If they won't do it, take it to a different Toyota service center, have them do it, then be sure to call the first one back. Tell them the other dealership did it without any hassle and that's why you are going to continue to business with the other dealership.

Peeling door

Postby clarkman » Thu Nov 11, 2004 5:12 pm

For the peeling door, what are you guys using to clean the door with? Anything strange? What lotions, perfume, etc do you use? I don't want my door to do this.

Yesterday, as I was cleaning my car I notice the driver door armrest is peeling. I only use a damp rag to clean my interiors. Has anyone with this problem already fixed it with the dealer? I think it must be replaced. Anyone knows as to why this happened?

I have not heard of this, but it looks like my seats are starting to split where the side curtain airbags are, and I hardly ever drive the car, it's only got 5k on it!

How about a photo of this peeling? Noone with peeling has shown a photo yet. Did you let rain hit the inside of the door alot when getting in or out of the car while it is raining? Wondering if water is causing it. Got very knobby elbows? lol

I just noticed my door peeling on saturday. I have had the car since 2/04 and have 10K miles on it. I rarely use that door handle. I am getting really frustrated with this solara.

I've not had any problem with peeling at all. My only interior problem was that my seat got some funny coloration on the portion that would get dripped on when it was raining etc. I used carpet cleaner on it and it came right out.

Mine are also peeling. Have you gotten your door panels wet recently? Mine started when I got my tints done and a few times when I left the windows open on a rainny day. The pannels and the arm rest on the door they come with a glossy film> when the fim gets moisture or wet it peels off.
