This forum was originally set out for 1 car Toyota Solara 99 -03.

When the 04 was released the forum was divided up the "general solara forum" became Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Do you feel as a gen 2 owner your just an outside addition to a comunity that was altrady built?

Do the gen 1 crowd make you feel welcome?

Do you feel ignored in other parts of this forum?

Do you feel labled by gen 1 folk?

Ill answear my own question here so I can let people know why I asked what could be a touchy question.

In this forum I feel very welcome but in others i feel not so welcome.

The general talk for instance those guys have done that for a long time they seem to be a local bunch who have met up and seem to have an inside talk. I find it hard to contribute.

I will say this though I get a real bad feeling when a gen 1 er posts " I see alot of old ladies in gen 2s" ya thanks its a solara not a trecel. How many of us are old ladies here?

in this forum i feel very welcome, but in the web site im gonna go with sometimes ( feeling a lil emotionally touched tonight)

From a few of the Gen. 1 owners that have posted regarding the Generation 2, it seems Gen. 2 owners are a bit classier...

I've received nothing but helpful replies when I post any topic. I don't see anyone acting very childish or useless and it seems this site will become useful in getting opinions on any problems I have with this car (if any).

posts like these i feel will make things better for a segregation b/w gen 1 and gen 2 folks.

sure there are diffferences, which can't be discussed in the same forum, but according to the general talk forum, anything, ANYTHING goes. you can be old, you can be young, you can be white, black, yellow, green, all the colors of the rainbow are welcomed!.

don't worry. the gen 2 is starting to pick up more and more people. soon enough there will be a nice amt of gen 2 folks on here.

digging up some earlier posts, this forum was a tumbleweed flopping through a ghost town. now look. patience folks. patience.

I feel that some newer Gen 2 members are kinda the outsiders some times because just the fact that the Gen 1-1.5 members have been here longer, so I feel for them. So, when ever a Veteran member says something sarcastic, or a funny remark, a Gen 2 member usually doesn't get it and thinks we are bagging on them and talking bad about them...NOT True.
I have now learned to be more sensitive with the gen 2 crowd, I get the feeling they are a bit more touchy on subjects and opinions of other older members. I can understand they are new and they are not going to get our humor or our set attitudes established long before they came along.

By the way, on some other forums that I frequent, some members actually fight on posts and go out on meets to find each other to actually physically fight...sad. This forum is one of the best as far as the Generations of the same vehicle coming together.

The whole situation started with this topic...

"The Gen 2 Rear end bla bla bla" ...

The someone, I forgot who, posted that Gen 2s shouldn't be allowed on this forum because it's not even a Solara (before the car was released... I think someone said it a week or so after the unavailing in April).

But Mike is right... this topic will only piss more people off and stir up stupid feelings... winning a fight over the internet is a stupid as losing it =P

All the 'inside talk' you're talking about doesn't have jack crap to do with being a Gen 1 owner... it just happens that we hang out OUTSIDE of meets (various common interests) and no Gen 2 owners come to meets frequently... I couldn't care less what car you drove... you can pull up in a riced civic to one of our meets... but as long as you're a cool person, it's all good... although you'd get clowned for having the RICE hahaha.

If anything, I'd think the Gen 2 members are trying to segregate themselves due to stupid actions taken by the Gen 1 group. I see off-topic postings in the Gen 2 category and aftermarket posts in the Gen 2 category. But I read the Gen 2 forum too (yea, I get BORED and read almost everything that has an interesting topic name), so why can't we all just get along :bday:

I disagree that this revisited topic will upset people. I'm quite happy to see open and honest discussion about our differences. Honest communication is the best way to learn about and eventually accept the differences we all share.

That being said, I agree with what most people on this forum are saying: This is easily one of if not thee best forum on the internet. For the most part I have received nothing but positive, friendly, and helpful advise from fellow Solara owners. But I do feel many of the "veterans" feel a certain ownership of this forum. And since the generation 2 Solara is quite different in its design this "ownership" materializes itself in a polarization between older Solara models and newer. And I've got to admit upfront. I am so tired, exhausted if you will, of all this "rear-end bubble," "huge rear-end" talk that I'm about to puke. I have yet to see a generation 2 owner disparage a generation 1/1.5 car.

I'm the first to laugh at myself and take a joke. But it seems a small number of gen. 1/1.5 owners enjoy continually ripping on the new design. I see little humor in their comments. All I see is provoking for no apparent reason.

But I'll be quite happy to leave all that crap behind me if others a willing to as well. Like I said in many other posts, we all own Solaras, we're all on the same team. :D

I remember when the 1.5 came out with it's redesigned tail lights, and No one like them. People were bagging on them left and right eventhough I had them on my car. I wasn't hurt by the remarks by some members nor did I scold people for talking bad about them because most of the members I knew were just expressing their opinions. I just think that the whole Gen 2 rear-end blew up because most were new members and had never heards us post before and some of us are very dry and sarcastic, but inside I think some of us Gen 1-1.5 wish they were the owners of a Gen 2 dispite the rear-design, the rest of the car is VERY nice!

Big rear, big trunk. I'll take the big rear to have a big trunk any day. And the rear doesn't look as big as the Altima or G35 coupe's large bumpers.

I am pretty comfortable in the Gen 2 forum however when posting in the other forums I have had Gen 1.x owners tell me what works for their 1.5 vehicle...I've even had that in the Gen 2 forum once or twice. I don't care what size speaker fits the Gen 1.x...I have a Gen 2 and your answer doesn't help me.

I don't think there are many of us Gen 2 folks going into the other areas and slamming the Gen 1.x vehicles. Having the Gen 1.x folks slam the Gen 2 in our area is a bit disheartening.

With all of that being said, this is far and away the nicest, most civil car forum I've run across! Flaming is kept to a minimum and believe me a few of use deserve to be set on fire at times. Keep up the good work guys! I have been able to find the answer to a number of question I have had and really enjoy the site!
