Convertible Owners: anyone got the windscreen ?

Convertible Owners: anyone got the windscreen ?

Postby Lone Solara » Tue Jul 13, 2004 10:27 pm

I was just checking some of the data on the Solara today, and I observed that they now have a windscreen as an option on the Solara. They didn't have it as an option when I bought mine back in April, so I was wondering if anyone has purchased it already. It apparently retails for $395, and invoice is $295.

If you do happen to have it, can you post some pictures, and your opinions as well (look, effectiveness, etc.) ?

Thanks !

No, it's usually a very fine mesh that goes right behind the front seats to minimize wind disturbance at high speeds. I went by the dealer yesterday but they were totally clueless. Toyota customer services will be next ...

I just hooked up with hatch...great deal on windscreen. If hatch can continue to provide pricing on parts like he did on the windscreen we should start throwing busness his way!

Message from hatch at Fowler Toyota in Dallas

Windscreen, part # PT906-06040, it is available to me in 1 day, List price
is $ 315.00. Club discount price is $ 245.00. plus freight. Let me know.

FYI.....

Have you seen the installation of the windscreen. You have to drill two holes in the inside panel to install it. There was a couple of people that complained about drilling the holes on the edmunds.com forum site.

Junest got one, but we haven't installed it yet. You do have to drill 2 holes, but it doesn't look that bad.

I saw it at the 2004 Chicago AutoShow. Looks okay and like it might reduce noise. My dealer offered to order the part when I got the car but my ragtop was a pre-order before they had any published pics of what it would look like. So he might have been talkin' out his @ss. He did on lots of other stuff. Anyone drive with one yet? Please report.

Thanks down2tech

Hopefully one of our members can share some details on what's involved and how it impacts the interior - drilling holes along with how it works. I've asked hatch if he could provide some feedback.

The key reason I am interested in the windscreen is to reduce the wind buffering for the backseat passenger...my 10 year old son!

I have the wind screen, it's really nice, it does cut down on the wind, and noise. I used a rotozip, and followed the directions, and it came out really nice. When not in use you can just fold it down, or easily remove and throw it in trunk, but since getting it, I do use it quite a bit, worth the money, and time to put it in.

Great! Thanks for the feedback. Anyway you can post or send pictures? If not where are the holes and when the screen is removed are there plugs provided that can inserted into those holds,

Thanks again

I'm pretty sure you have no back seat when it's installed. It puts a mesh arch behind the front seats. So maybe not what you need. I'll look for a pic.

Looks like you might have back seat access still but any fluid dynamics expert would tell you that it shouldn't improve your sons's buffetting greatly. But I'm not a fluid dynamic expert. For the driver it deflects the backflow of air moving off the windshield and curling back to hit you in the back of the head. Don't know exactly what will happen to the back seat. It will be different but will it be better? Good luck!

P.S. The handle is "Down to the sea". cryptic, huh?
