I heard rattles from my solara the first week I had her too (01)....First weekend i gutted out the carpets in the trunk and found out that the spare tire wasn't tightened and the jack was on top of the tire and not secured on the mounting spots. Prior to that i was so PO'ed for assuming i got a lemon...phew...check to see if all screws are tight!

Bigpow,

I understand your frustration! I go neurotic when I get a rattle or squeak! Luckily, I've been without rattles or brake squeaks. I do, however, have an extremely intermittant rattle on the passenger side front dash area, about where the passenger airbag would deploy. But I hear it so little that at this point I'm not going to have it checked.

I hope you get this all worked out. That suggestion about checking your spare tire compartment is an excellent one!

fotodad, now after you said it, I think I also hear rattle from the front passenger side; the lockable dash drawer IS making the rattle...
I had it "held" down and there was no rattle!

I'll try the spare tire thingy..

Damn!

The 2 bars below the speaker in the trunk area are the luggage torsion bars. These bars allow the luggage to pop open when the luggage release handle is used. There should be a piece that fits around one of the torsion bars near the contact area that prevents any rattle noises between the bars.

That's what I thought it was too, until I wedged some cloth between the two and still the rattle occured. I still believe it is somehwere in the reaer suspension. I have my car at the dealership now, but the noise is so intermitent that I doubt they will find the source.
