left drift???

now i keep reading that everyone says that they're all experiencing the same thing... are you talking about how every time i pull out of some place turning right my tires are screeching? cuz i only get it when i punch it going left... but i get it constantly going right. then again i'm a young guy driver so my idea of a "reasonable" pull out may be a lil quicker then everyone else’s (my father is always holding on to the Oh-Poop handle when i drive... any car)

No, it is not the screeching you are experiencing. The screeching is caused by mainly one thing--your lead foot.

The left drift is where when driving straight, the car tends to drift to the left side of the road. On a road with no cars, just barely hold onto the wheel and you may notice the car start to drift. Of course, if the road is angled to the right for drainage, the drift will be nonexistent, but if the road is angled to the left, the drift will be exaggerated.
Moved on to better things...

Toyota just fixed my left drift issue last Friday...all is now right with the car.

There's a thread around here called "left drift final resolution" you should check out that has specific info on the TSB..But the short story is that there is a TSB for this problem. The issue was production line and fixed on the line so it only effects some cars built before a certain day. That thread has VIN# info on that, as well as the TSB #.

u all were saying drift i was just thinking of skidturning ... like hand brake pulling hard turns.

but one more question... are u saying the stearing starts going to the left or just the car seems to go to the left???

Both. The steering wheel is off center to the left and the car drifts (pulls might be a better word) left. If you had the problem, you'd probably notice....It's pretty hard to miss at highway speeds.

actually today on a long straight road i let go for a lil bit and i did seem to veer to the left... but while i have a hand on the wheel i cant even tell... i've had my car at absurd speeds before and never notice as long as i'm holding it. I’m going to contact my service person at the dealer and see if they can do a quick fix when I do my oil next (going to get a trd air filter at the same time)

I have noticed it with mine, thought maybe I was going crazy. I tried to look for the thread in which the VIN #'s were listed, but cannot find it. Can someone point me to it?

Left Drift/Pull Final Resolution

Postby glenb » Wed May 19, 2004 4:04 am

Look for topic "Left Drift/Pull Final Resolution"

The last post there was around March 15 so it is a long way down in the list of topics.

You can search on my username "glenb"

There you will get several topics about the left drift.

Good luck.

If you still have a problem email me.
