warming up car theory correct me if im wrong.

warming up car theory correct me if im wrong.

ok id like to 1st state this car takes a LONG TIME TO WARM UP.

its -0 F ouside here in the great white north and im finding that in comparison to my 98 accord 4 banger this car is taking about 2 minutes more to warm up.

I have about a 3- 5 minute drive down 2 residentail streets to the hwy from my house and by the second street my accord was warmed up and the temp gauge had reached the middle on the solara the temp gauge usually starts rolling up once im on the hwy.

So heres my theory: THE 98 ACCORD WAS A 4 CYLINDER 198 HP I FIGURE THE ENGINE WAS WORKING HARDER AS I DROVE AND THEREFOR WARMED THE CAR UP FASTER THAN SAY THE 6 225 THATS IN THE SOLARA.

THE SECOND PART TO THIS THEORY IS IF PART 1 IS TRUE THAN WOULD PUTTING THE STICK INTO MANUAL MODE AND LEAVING IT IN 2ND TO REV THE ENGINE AT A HIGHER RPM WOULD WARM THE CAR UP FASTER.

is this just wishful thinking?

oh and id also like to add te heat distribution on this car aint all taht great i mean once the cars all warmed up and i want a blast of HOT on my cold feet it dosent really deliver when all switches are pointing to air only on feet temp warm andmore than 1 bar of air push.

Considering Toyota has designed the car so it shifts only into higher gears as the car warms up, holding a lower gear may warm the car up quicker.

your 98 4 banger accord had 198 hp? I thought the v6's had 200 hp. Well, yea, I'd have to agree with you that my solara does take a long time to warm up.

4 cyl accord doesnt have 198 hp. and holding ur engine at higher rpms when its colder will do more damage than good. best thing to do is just to drive it easy and try not to accelerate too fast. the toyota engineers kno what they are doing, and the car wont shift to higher gear til its warm anyways. if u are really concerned, do what i do, and turn the car on and leave it in park for 2-3 minutes til u start driving. thats the safest

An Accord with 198 hp 4cyl., was this a Type "R" or something?

My Solora seems to heat up just fine.

Page 233 of the OM:

"Avoid lengthy warm-up idling. Once the engine is running smoothly, begin driving - but gently. Remember, however, that on cold winter days this make take a little longer."

Boy, those injuneers are wicked smart!
