Review of my 2004 Lunar Mist SE Sport with SST GT1 Wheels

Since I just had Tire Rack try to fit 225/55/17 on stock rims, which ended up rubbing badly, I assume the offset must be quite a bit different than stock to allow clearance of a 235 past the struts with a wider rim. I like the look, I am planning on getting the black chrome GT3's come spring, just worried about tire fitment with so few choices, as I just came from an Evolution VIII, and I am more picky than most when it comes to tires. If I can get the 235/45 AO46 Yoko's I had on the Evo to fit, I will, since they outhandle the Pilot Sport and S03s I've also run. That would require speedo calibration, but the tire pressure sensor has a calibration function built in, so there would be no worries there.

Got it! The offset is +38, and I verified the 114.3 lug pattern. It was marked on a bright white sticker on the inside of the rim.

Post picks under this thread when done. I want to see it.

Cool nice ride, so just to confirm the stock specs are:

- 215/55/17
- 5 X 114.3
- +38 offset

I'm thinking of getting 235/40/18 spec tires. Fewer manufacturers make 225/45/18 and 235/45/18 tires so they're slighty more expensive. Anyone have any experience with 235/40/18 tires?

Oh, golly. I don't know what the stock rim offset it. That offset was for the GT1s I put on. I don't even have the original wheels. The dealer kept them (they gave me a credit for the on the price of the car). The lug dimensions should be the same, and the tire is listed in the car brochure as P215/55R17. Again, the tires are at the dealer.

Russell,

Although I'm not a huge fan of the new Solara, I really like how your car looks, especially with the new wheels and tires. I'm curious about your SSR GT1 wheels. You mentioned something about their tendency to bend. Do you have a sense of their durability now that you've been driving with them for a month? Have you hit any potholes or other road imperfections that allowed you to determine if they're tough enough for "real" roads? I'm asking because I'm considering getting a set of SSR Competitions, which are even lighter than the GT1's. I've read posts on other forums from people who swear by them, and from others who've bent their rims. Your experiences would be helpful. Thanks.
