Yes, I do notice this! I figured that it happened because the car is so new, but it's not going away. It's still a continuous problem since day 1.

Yep, it's the most annoying little thing. At least it's not a major problem.

I have noticed this and it is a pain. Moisture will stay around for up to a week and the drain holes at the bottom of the door also drip for awhile. Am not crazy about the felt material on the widow molding...I guess they figure that will last longer than rubber. I am happy about the doors holding the moisture.

Water in doors

Postby jmack » Sat Dec 27, 2003 6:10 am

Count me in as well. Seems like there is always some water on the windows when they come back up. I wonder about how this will affect corrosion in the doors, window lift mechanism, power locks, etc. Maybe I should have got that way overpriced extended warrantee after all.

Good point about the concern how water might affect all those other things. I have the extended warranty but unsure whether it would cover all of that. Probably would. You can still get that warranty the first three years of ownership by the way so not too late.

The water residue is also annoying if you want to keep your car looking clean. You'll always have water stains on your windows if you don't leave them up all the time.

For those in below freezing climes, does the water residue inside the car door freeze up and when you lower and raise the window you get a thin layer of ice there?

I'm wondering if we need to notify Toyota of the situation because what happen if there's corrosion inside the door (side impact beams, if there's one) and you are hit on the side........

IMPORTANT! Please read

Postby slingshot » Sat Dec 27, 2003 2:41 pm

Someone here said that Toyota has refused to fix this problem under warranty. I will bring it up when I go to the dealership for first time oil change myself and see what they have to say. I encourage everyone here to complain to Toyota when you bring it into the dealer and tell them to fix it under warranty and see what they say.

I'm assuming at least one person from Toyota Motor Corp reads this website. Other car websites get read by car manufacturers for sure and changes are made after many gripes are heard in the forums. Some examples are Acura and Infiniti reading acura-cl, acura-tl, and freshalloy websites. That's why it is so important to respond to polls and make your grievances in forum posts. Also it is important to complain to the dealerships themselves AND call Toyota Customer Service. If they get many calls on something, they all of a sudden take notice and changes are made. An example is Infiniti G35 cars were seeing very fast brake pad usage and many people complained loudly on the forum. Infiniti read it and changed their warranty to cover brake pads and their reinstall!

This isn't only a problem in gen 2 toyotas. I see this also in my gen 1. It's a pain in the ass. Sometimes when I roll up the window, there is also water esidue on the inside of the window. If I wanna keep my window spot free, I gotta keep them closed for like a week after my car wash. If I do decide to open them, I gotta wipe them clean after I close them.

I don't remember water staying anywhere that long in my old Gen1. The Gen2 seems to keep water longer. The Gen1 was a couple days I think, this car is almost a week! One big improvement I see is my old Gen1 windows used to get a dirt line at the very top from resting on the rubber. It used to drive me crazy and had to be scrubbed off all the time. The new car doesn't get that line at all.

i think toyota should disassemble the door to see what's holding the water inside. for my car, there's no water dripping from the drain holes but there's water on the window after rolling it down.

i'm thinking the worse scenario: after a week or so, when there's no more water on windows after rolling it down, and we think it has been dried up, but there's still water inside the door somewhere.

now i'm getting really worried and i will complain when i visit the dealership.

Even though this isn't a major problem, we should all complain about it to get something done about it. We're all having it and it is part of the design.

You have to consider that the felt weatherstripping might be more durable in the long run and will last the life of the car. The trade-off might be leaving water streaks on the windows for a week after you wash the car. I would rather have the rubber molding myself as it takes forever for the current weatherstrip to dry. I have also noticed a few drops of water leakiing at the top of the window taking it through a car wash...has anyone else experienced that?
