18" Tires

18" Tires

Postby biggie » Sat Dec 06, 2003 11:37 am

I just purchased 18" Lexani Krystal wheels for my '04 Black SE V6 Sport. I understand the stock diameter of the 215/55R-17's is 26.4", but it is width that concerns me. The place I purchased the rims from and tirerack.com recommend 225/45-18's because of the neglegable decrease in diameter, but I want to put on as wide of a tire as possible and was possibly thinking of purchasing Pirelli 235/40ZR-18's. Rgache mentioned that putting 235/45R18's added .1" in diameter. Does anyone know how the diameter of a 235/40-18 compares to a 225/45-18? Also, would 235 width be too wide? I'm sorry if my questions sound ammateur, but this is the first time I will be changing my stock tires/rims. If anyone else out there with an '04 has 18's, what tires have you decided to go with and why? Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don't those tires leave you with a nice-sized gap from your tire to wheelwell? And won't it throw off your speedometer? Do you have any pics of your ride?

Look at this website to calculate tire size effects on your car (speedometer changes, etc). It is an awesome website.

ill get some up soon. I'm working on a camera mount project right now =P probably tomorrow

18x8 offset +50 (offset brings the wheel closer to the strut, or pushes it out from the strut) but I'm on a 2002 so it may look different...

I checked the tire calculator and there is a .1% difference in a 235/45-18 from stock and a -1.3% difference in 225/45-18 from stock. Both sizes have pretty close to the same diameter as the stock 215/55-18's. Which size would be a better fit for my 18x8's and for the car? Would the 235/45-18's rub at all?

i'm thinking of getting 235/40/18 as well...more manufacturers make this spec tire so it's usually cheaper...anyone have these for any brand?
