I work in a tire shop, Never had one brake. was it an OE one? They might replace it for you, or give you a new set.

Wow, I've never heard of OEM locks breaking. Maybe the cheap knock-offs though. Good luck.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

This happened to my 03 Altima and I just took it to a local tire shop and they were able to remove it for $25. The stud was not broken, Lock was stripped. Good luck.

Your going to have to go to a tire shop to have them fix your problem.

if u want to do it yourself there is a secret.

Get one socket that is a lil smaller than the size and hammer it in. Then use a breaker bar and break that crap out.

This happend to my solara.

Postby lambition » Sat Sep 05, 2009 3:50 pm

I also broke OEM security lug nut on solara few years back.

I could not get one of the security lug nut lose possibly because a shop I did saftly inspection has over tighten it.

I broke about 1/3 of the key in process. I tried to take the nut off with broken key again and again, then I even broke part of the nut.

I ordered replacement key, and tried again. I broke the key again.

Took it to the shop I did saftly inspection. They suggested taking it to a dealer and have them cut the wheel off. (Really? :-? )

Did some google search and found that I could just use a socket slightly smaller than the security lug nut.

So, I just purchased 12 point socket (6 socket may not have enough grip) sligtly smaller than the security lug nut and hammered it on to the security lug nut and removed them.

I got so frustrated with these security lug nuts, I replaced all 4 security lug nuts with regular lug nuts.
Hopfully no one will find OEM wheels worth robbing. :)

I had a 4Runner come in to my shop yesterday. It had OE security lugs and the key was broken. It had a small section of it missing were it probably broke off when someone over tightened it. So, I have now actually seen a broken OE key.
