Question on buying used SE Sport V6

Postby Sparky5e » Sat Aug 22, 2009 7:45 am

The 2.5 has the same throttle lag issues as the 2.0 from the descriptions I have read. My 07 does the same thing like stepping on the gas at 30 and waiting 2 seconds for the car to go. I really hate trying to merge and take the agressive route by accelerating to the max for the last 1/2 of the ramp. It is easier to slow down then judge the lag time.

I have also read there is no update for the 2.5, maybe because the one for the 2.0 does basically nothing long term. The stupid "smart" computor that adjusts for your driving style doesn't know what to do when you switch styles from cruising to aggresive. The only real solution I have found is to manuallly down shift when it's needed now.

As far as compairing 2.0 to 2.5 I think it is mainly cosmetic. with LED's, moulding and interior light color. The 2.5 also have issues with floor matt colors not matching.

I personally like the styling of the 2.5 better, but with that the aftermarket options for replacing the gril is far less.

Cool, really appreciate the additional input on the throttle lag and I'll the other advice. Geez, I'm almost wondering if I should go with a 2003-2007 Accord coupe now... I prefer the styling of the Solara over the Accord, but the throttle lag might be a big issue for me. As Sparky5e described, having to slow down to merge due to throttle lag kind of sucks; I prefer to speed up and beat the other car whenever possible (just more fun that way)!

Maybe it wouldn't be a big deal if it were JUST the transmission shift issue or JUST the lag issue, but two issues to worry about might just deter me. Perhaps I'll just need to test drive a 2004+ Solara to see if I can live with it or not.

It really isn't an engine lag thing, more like the tranny is taking time to find the right gear. It takes way too long to down shift to the proper gear.

As far as engine lag. I did the free mod of moving the vacuum line to open up both intake ports for the air box all the time. This helped out allot. Later I intalled a CPE intake and never looked back. I love the sound, response, added power and fuel economy.

Sorry I got would up on the original post. It is just sad that a 30K car with all this techology lags behind the vaccum assist shift trannys from the 90's.

Even complaining about the tranny, I still like my car.

The 8-trak...er...[cassette] tape deck is so retro...especially if you
still have a ton of tapes. I love the option of having tape AND cd
capababilies. I also love the clean bumper without the backup lights
and the spot light fogs. I had to cover the fangs with a grille, however.
The whole car looks retro to me. I love it. Jimmm

What would I do without you, David? Yes, I now
remember what fangs are. I was thinking of the teeth
in the lower opening. I woke up early. What are you doing
up so late? Jimmm

My personal opinion in that the 2004-2006 SE Sports look much nicer than the newer 2007+ models. The bumpers on the 2007+ seem more boxy looking and don't flow as well with the rest of the vehicle. Like mentioned the 2004-2006 has the larger fangs and and cleaner rear valence. Remember that if you plan to get the 2004-2006 model that it must be under 80k miles (I think??) to get the throttle response/shifting TSB fixed for free.
