How to remove scratches on plastic

Postby know1uno » Mon Mar 02, 2009 4:18 pm

I've got a scratch on the piece of plastic that runs parallel to the side bar on the left side of my windshield. I think it was probably scratched when my car got inspected and the new state inspection sticker was being applied. I bet the employee accidentally hit the plastic with his razor blade scraper to scrape off the old sticker.

Any ideas on how to remove that scratch from the plastic? I'd like to buff that area out, if possible.

I thought about using a very fine fingernail buffing pad, but that didn't do a good job. It just scratched the entire area a little more, so I've stopped until I can find an answer.

Thanks!

well.. the only plastic sratch remover I know of is scratchx, but its meant for clear platic. If the scratch is deep, then you might as well forget trying to fix it. on anothr thought, you could sand it, fill in the scrath if nesscary, and paint it what ever color you want.

Hopefully, someone else will have a solution I am looking for.

I'm not 100% certain the people at the inspection place scratched it, but that is what I am "guessing".

Not that big of a deal, but to me it is noticeable.

Don't have the talent and tools to buff it out and then repaint it and it
isn't exactly that deep. Just was hoping to sand a little off with a very mild abrasive and then be done with it.

I'm out of town right now. I'll take a photo when I get back into town next week.

I also have small scratches inside my car, mine or somebody elses, but several attempts at removing them ended up making the problem worse.

I think you are screwed, same as me, but if something comes out of this thread, kudos for both of us! :)
