55w bulb = 3.928amps
100w bulb = 7.14amps

3.22amp difference.

http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm

7 amps are the max. 7.14 is high. You are correct.

Find a 90W bulb and you will be fine.

My point was a slightly brighter bulb is not a problem. Anything up to about 90W is safe for the wiring spec. Assuming 22ga.

This is just my input. It's not exact.

Very good source. How could we figure out what wire size?

to find the gauge, you would have to measure the diameter of the strands.
since the insulation can vary depending on manufacturer.

so if anyone wants to try. strip some of the insulation away
and use a micrometer to measure?

i would say that the headlight stuff is a 20-22 ga

cheers

If you want just some regular bulbs but somthing different looks for Osram Nightbreakers. I've got them in my car they're definantly more clear and a tad brighter. You can notice a whiter light too but don't expect them to look like HID's. Also HID's are a bad idea in any car not designed for them as they just throw light anywhere since the housing itself wasn't designed for HID's if you don't have them from the factory. Either way it's your call.
