Rear Window Defroster Design Flaw

Rear Window Defroster Design Flaw

Postby jeffwingo » Fri Jan 09, 2009 1:26 pm

I have had my Solara Convertible for 3 years and have notice that the rear window defroster turns on but has never defrosted the rear window. I took it to the dealer and they said current was reaching the defroster. They said they would call Toyota as to how to handle the problem. In the mean time they tried the defrosters on some of their brand new Solaras on the lot and had the same results. Toyota has never gotten back to them as to what they will do to fix it.

Has anyone experienced the same problem? Were you able to get it fixed?

Mine works just fine. I only drive it in the summer though, but everytime it rained i used it (which was quite a bit last summer), and it worked everytime.

Did they check all your fuses?....how about the defroster relay?

If it's a fact that OTHER vehicles are the SAME WAY... (or REGARDLESS) if it is NOT defrosting, do the following:

TELL YOUR DEALER TO FILE A WARRANTY CLAIM on your behalf to Toyota. Then INSIST that they FIX the feature at their cost.

There is a warranty database system that all (that I know) automotive manufacturers use (each different, but common practice) wherein such issues can be INPUT by the DEALER and there is a "MECHANISM FOR RESOLUTION" for YOU, and a TRIGGER for ACTION/INVESTIGATION at the manufacturer that can drive such things as RECALLS and SERVICE BULLETINS to be generated, as well as MID-MODEL YEAR COUNTERMEASURES!

Don't just accept a NON-FUNCTIONAL feature that is DEFECTIVE!

(ANY dealer worth their salt should be receptive to this argument, and NOT suffer the loss without compensation by the mfg.)

G/L!
