Horn sounds different...

Horn sounds different...

Postby thestevo44 » Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:17 am

For as long as I have had my Solara, the horn has been that of a "regular" car, meaning that is not that "little car" horn... you know... Meeep meeep. More of a HONK.

Anyway.... all of a sudden, my horn sounds like a civic horn. Ummmmm, what the hell?

Anybody got anything? I am assuming nobody switched my horn on me.

Have someone honk the horn while you're under the hood and see if one of them isn't working (mine has 2)

Actually you have 3 horns....you have the normal two horns that make noise when you hit it from the steering wheel, and then you have another "meep meep" horn inside the engine bay somewhere that is connected to your factory alarm.

Check your horn, and factory alarm fuses.

Thanks for the help.

no problem at all... sending a thread (or anything) in the direction of adding humor is always welcome. I'll try not to hit my head.

Hope I wasn't confusing the issue either. I just wanted to say that I agreed about one of the two horns being inoperative.

We all need more humor in our lives- even if it's at the expense of our friends/relatives! :)

Yup... dual tone. If you lose one tone it sounds lame. Suggest you beat on it with a wrench a little. From the sound it's gotta be an air horn meaning there's a little air pump motor to get stuck.

Plus you never bother troubleshooting until you've beaten it thoroughly with a wrench first. 8)

Yeah even my gen 1 has two horns. I pulled one of them off, and swapped it for a Ford F150 horn. I can't stand the meep meep.

:bad-words: What the hell!! Can't somebody help this guy out without making jokes?! I'm sick of the wise-cracks on this forum--especially in the "General" section.

Anyway, my advice is to pop the hood and look near the radiator for two horns. One horn blares in the key of E and the other blares in the key of A. If the current beep is wimpy it sounds like your car is only horn A, if the current beep is deep it sounds like your car is only horn E--in either case, you probably should get your car to a whorehouse fast! Here's a thought. Pop the hood and unplug the easily accessed horn. It should be right behind the grill, the hit the horn and see what happens. If silence...then you'll have to locate the 2nd horn and replace, if it sounds the same then the 1rst horn is to blame. Just take it to the dealership if its under warranty still or pull one from a junkyard toyota. 8)
