headlight problem (battery dead now..)

headlight problem (battery dead now..)

Postby Biggi_e » Wed Dec 10, 2008 2:22 pm

so i received like 10 emails from people at my company saying my alarm has been going off..i run to my car thinking somebody hit it! i was ready to fuk somebody up..turns out it was my damn headlights..

i usually use the "auto" setting for my headlights but every once in a while i use the manual setting of switching on and off for them. i noticed i left them on "on". when i locked my car walking a away, i figured it would turn off automatically like it usually does..well i came back from lunch around 1:10pm..it is now 4:16pm while im typing this..and my headlights do not turn on due to the certain voltage i need for my HID's to kick on im guessing..

my alarm system is "avital 4400". from what my buddy said, since the voltage went so low from the battery, it sent a signal to my alarm which set it off.

anyone know if this is a wiring problem from the headlights or the alarm system? my friend and i installed this couple of years ago..never really had a problem like this.

Why is your alarm wired to your headlights in the first place? Most car alarms are wired to the runninglights / hazards (with the exepction of factory alarms). With that being said, having HIDs shouldn't effect lights staying on. It should turn of automaticly if you pulse the factory alarm twice. Otherwise it should turn off when you turn off the car, open the door, close the doors, wait 30 seconds. Perhaps your aftermarket alarm is not using the factory alarm disarm/arm when your unlocking/locking so it might not be pulsing. Either way, having it set on auto or manual lgihts shouldn't keep them on forever unless you turn them on after the car is allready off.

Agreed!

lights shouldn't be affected by an alarm but has this happened before?
and are you using a harness to the battery for the HIDs? if so might be a bad relay ( slim chance ) but worth a look if you have another one.
Alpine + Dynaudio = Sonic bliss.

Your lights are supposed to turn off by themselves as soon as you pull the key out of the ignition (even when the switch is "on").

For your alarm to go off....its probably one of those old-school type systems that had a feature called "voltage sensing". It was a way for the alarm system to pick up on minimum current drain (from someone opening the door and turning the dome light on, or opening the trunk and turning that light on). It would set the alarm off even if the insatller didnt physically hook up individual door triggers or trunk trigger.

If thats the case, then when you're battery reached a certain low voltage, it set it off.
