Fog light switch

Fog light switch

Postby System_Crash » Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:06 am

Anyone else have to relace the multifunction switch because of the fog lamp switch "shorting" flickering the lights on and off ? I just noticed this lastnight, you turn the fogs on and push a little more forward and the lights and relay flip on and off till you release the switch of turn them off.
it's more of an annoyance right now but I know it will eventually hurt the relay/wiring/ and probly pop the light bulbs. BTW: its a dealer only item and it's $296.08 for the entire assembly and $154.59 for just the arm. :o

PS: its an 04 lara se sport

"bulb indicator light"? You mean an icon on the dash that says the headlights are on? I don't remember ever seeing that...

I have an '05, nowhere on my dash is there a headlight icon other than the highbeam indicator icon. With regular headlights on (whether in 'auto' or not) the only indication your headlights are on is your dashboard lights illuminating. Of course I'm assuming there were no instrument panel design changes between '05-'06, but I don't recall seeing one in an '08 Lara I drove a month ago.

As a side note, did anybody know that there is a low wiper fluid icon? My past Fords never had that.

Shoot, really? Maybe now, I'll stop refilling the dang reservoir everytime I wash my car for fear of running out...

I've never experienced the flickering fog lamps before. I don't recall ever seeing any indicator lamp on the instrument cluster either.

My '04 has 64K miles.

I tried playing with it some more and its seems to do it most when the fogs are on and you try to turn the headlamp switch forward (mine had a good amound of freeplay in it) but I first noticed it pushing the fog switch forward. Seems to me the previous owner was too harsh on the headlamp switch and sort of "wore out" the contacts for the headlamps. Well anywho, I guess I'll be saving some $ for the entire switch assembly :(

I have an '08 and I do have a headlights on indicator in my car.

No modern (Post 1994) US Ford cars have a light for wiper fluid level except the Lincoln Continental 1995 and later and then it was a warning in the multifunction on board computer, not a light. Most other cars have such a light (my 1995 Chrysler Lebaron GTC even had one).

Since that is not an item that most owner's routinely check, it is probably a good idea.

I'll post them here:

Image
The green symbol below the oil warning lamp is the lights on indicator (it is only on when the tail lamps are on. It comes on if you turn them on manually or let the automatic system do it for you.)

Image
The blue light at the top left is the high beam indicator.

The lights on indicator must be something that is exclusive to the '08 Solara models.
