If its the maintenance light, I think your 5k oil change interval is coming up (stays on after 5k). Nothing to be worried about. If you have a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL), then you'd take it to Autozone.

Funny thing, but my Maint light went off without it being reset. Funny...

Do u have a laptop? if so, ur cheap option is this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-ELM3 ... 911.c0.m14

I just baught the same unit from that seller, came in the end of 2 weeks from Hong Kong...and works real well.

Apart from that, u can try to find other places that read codes, but most places that "charge" to read the code, charge upwards to 50+...So the 28 bux ud spend on ebay for ur own reader pays for itself in its first use.

That process is in you manual. If you don't have that it's in here several times. But I did it recently and I believe its something like:

1. tap the trip odo button until you're looking at the main odometer.
2. Pull the key out.
3. Push the trip reset button and hold it.
4. Put the key in and turn the ignition to "ON"
5. Keep holding the trip reset btn and in 5 seconds the Maint light should blink 3 times. Then you can release the btn and you're reset.

Check page 136 of your owners manual. After you've done the oil change here's the reset procedure:
1. Turn your ignition on and make sure the odometer is showing total vehicle miles (not one of the trip meters)
2. Turn the ignition off and push the trip/odometer reset button
3. While holding the button turn the ignition on and watch the mileage display
4. When the display reads 000000 (it could take a few seconds) you've reset the counter.

Cheers

What he said. 4500 is blinking at start up, 5000 miles you get a solid.

Have any of us gave it any further thought to the maintenance light coming on for oil changes being different? Some of us are getting the light at 3k miles, others are getting it at 5k miles. Are the I-4s and V-6s differently timed for oil changes?

What does your owners manual say? Mine (V6) specifically says 4500 for the temporary blinking light and 5000 for it to come on solid which is exactly when those indicators come on. It may be different for the 4 cylinder. If the Gen I cars have the same indicator there may be a difference but this thread is about the '04 and later cars so wouldn't apply.

My straight 4 maint. light started blinking at 4500 so there goes that theory.
