I would like so much to know how much it would upgrade the tranny. Probably next summer I will plan a trip in NJ to go to IPT shop...instead of sending my parts.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Crispone,

Now that the thread has been well and truly hijacked

I realize we're probably talking semantics here but there really is 'not' a "shift kit" for the Solara transmission. A kit (at least when it comes to transmissions) is usually a simple to install valve or valve body and maybe a spring along with some gaskets. They've been available for decades from company's like B&M mostly for Ford, Chevy and Chrysler transmissions. I'd guess I'm not the only forum member who's installed one or two.

The item you're pointing to seems really trick and, frankly, I'd love to install one but falls under the heading of 'modification'. To quote from their site "The fact is that there is no shift kit available for most Toyota transmissions! We are able to modify your existing valve body for high performance operation."

I know it's a stupid play on words but the difference could be pretty substantial for someone who's thinking in terms of 'kit' (usually under a hundred bucks) and that mod that's going to be really close to a grand after buying all the gaskets, fluids and paying shipping.

Cheers

well, the lady selling the car won't have the lein release notice from toyota till Thursday  soooo I'm just i'm rocking the bus in the meantime.

I am very anxious about this car, I cant wait to really own it and show off it to my GF and family :)

I hate buying cars without a cleared title. But realistically, you have to go through this from time to time.

Good luck with the transaction.

i voted mybe on the solara GEN1...you may ask why?...well its not powerful v6-I4, parts are worth too much and its too boaty, and doors are to heavy..now the car is geart, its reliable, great for long trips with friends, it fits 4 people just fine.. easy to get in and out of.. now i'm looking at 2002-2008..

So FINALLY picked it up yesterday from the lady,
paid 14,500 for the car. SLE COUPE!
it has just under 29,000 miles

but its in good-excellent condition, and also tranferred the toyota platinum warranty under my name, so right now I'm happy!

just a few things i didn't noticed at first.

1) This car DOES have traction control
2) This Car DOES have sport suspension
3) This car DOES NOT have a powered passenger seat :((WTF)
my GF was a bit pissed but oh well.

but so far , my first trip in traffic was good, and i'm pleased. I plan on her out(the car, i named her Shirley). should be a fun time for us both :)

how do you have a sle with sport suspension? was it changed at factory or did she get it done aftermartket wise?

i have an sle but swapped out the struts to the se sport struts and lowered mine. i dont think the passenger powered seat was an option for our cars anyways? correct me if im wrong anyone but i dont have it..

Duuuude... where's the pics?!?!

Good choice on color. Are you sure it's an SLE? SLE's don't have the sport suspension and the odds are the "lady" you purchased it from did not change that. I'd ask if it was an SE Sport, but with the beige interior, I doubt it. Maybe it's an SE?

Whatever it is, nice choice in color!!! It's a great car. They're not sports cars, but they are a mean freeway cruiser. I'll be driving mine back from McAllen, TX to Dallas, TX tomorrow morning. That's about 9 hours according to google, but I can do it in 7. Monday, I'll be driving back to McAllen from Dallas when I'll stay for 2 weeks, and then again, drive back to dallas.
I also drove the car from Dallas to Atlanta last year. The long road trips are enjoyable to me.

I would recommend getting the Aux2Pod adapter. With a DC/AC converter, I had the laptop plugged into the car stereo for the entire drive with a near unlimited playlist.

Again, nice choice on car.

congrats on the purchase!

first thing's first, get the car to breathe easier! (intake + exhaust) and you'll notice a world of difference!
