Car Alarm going off when car is started

Postby jblakely » Tue Jul 15, 2008 9:46 am

Hello,

This morning my 2004 Solara SE Sport started acting abnormally. When I turned the ignition, the car would take about a second or two longer to start and the car alarm would simultaneously go off. For a few seconds there would be a loud clicking noise (similar to that of a turn signal) coming from the dashboard left of the steering wheel.

The car would then drive normally.

However when I turn the engine off, the car alarm would go off again.

I've tried it several times and got the exact same symptoms each time.

Is this a sign that the battery/alternator needs replacing? Has anybody else here come across the same problem?

Thanks for any feedback.

I'm not sure what kind it is, assuming Toyata pre-installs several types on gen 2 Solaras. I also forgot to include the fact that my clock on my dashboard is now off by several hours. I think it may be more than the alarm system. I'm not equipped to pull the alarm system out myself.

5sfe: I'll have to get back to you on that. I not sure if it is just the alarm system. And if it was, I don't exactly live in the best neighborhood. Thanks for the help though.
