Driver Side door alignment

Hey guys,
I just had my first fun trip to the stealership trying to get them to fix the alignment of my door on my 08 Solara Sport. According to how the body line runs, the door is low about 1/4 in. or so in the back, while the passenger side is solid. They showed me 2 other Solara's on the lot with the same problem, and are trying to push it off that they cant fix it. Has anyone else had the same problem on their Solara?

If you check the factory service manual, it shows how the doors can be re-aligned. It's a PIA, but it's doable.

Yes, I pointed that out to them as well. They are just really resistant to fixing it. Gonna have to push em.

Options:

1. Take the car to another dealer. You don't have to use the shop where you purchased the car for warranty work. If the alternate dealer says something like 'sure, no problem' and gets the job done for you you'll have found the place to buy any future cars. Be sure and let everyone you know (work, play, local bulletin boards) about your good/bad experience.

2. Take pictures of the door showing the misalignment. If the door is really .25" off at the back then it should be very obvious in any picture taken near the upper and lower corners.

3. Give the shop one more chance telling them you're going to send the pictures to Toyota Customer Service along with a letter detailing their lack of interest in fixing the problem. Be sure and include the admission that the door is out of alignment but it's like two others on the lot. If the shop doesn't immediately back the collective truck up and adjust the door make a call to Toyota and get an address or fax number where you can send the documentation.

4. Forget the shops and do it yourself. Enlist a couple of buddies, pay them in beer and follow the service manual instructions for adjustment.

I'd think with two other cars on the same lot with the same issue the dealership could figure out someone at the factory was having a bad day and fix the problem(s) before the cars even ended up on the sales floor.

About a month or two after getting my car, I took it back and told them the door was shutting like an old Ford. They tightened the belt thing and it's been fine since. This seems like something that may need to be done after several years. I can easily imagine that belt slowing stretching out a bit.

Yeah - I wouldn't accept that line of "the other cars are fugged-up too" crap! Force their hand to make it right!
