Factory stereo

I have an '08 V6 SLE; I owned an '05 Camry V6 XLE previously, my son has an '07 Corolla. My question has to do with the factory stereo in my Solara.

In my Camry, I had the RDS feature that allowed data display on FM radio stations--song titles and artists were listed. My son's Corolla has the same thing, but not my new Solara. I find this odd.

My Solara was a special factory order because the color wasn't available here in AZ (looooong story); did I somehow get the wrong stereo for the trim level of my car?

Hoping someone out there can help me out!! :roll:

SLEs usually do have JBL premium audio standard, so it should have it... That sounds kinda strange. Perhaps it's the "TEXT" button?

The TEXT button is only functional when I play CDs that are RDS-enabled.

This is indeed a mystery to me, as the Solara was a more expensive car than my top-of-the-line Camry--and certainly more expensive than my 17-year-old's Corolla, which does have RDS!

The TEXT button should work the same for the radio tuner as well as the CD. If it doesn't pop up any info for your radio stations then I would guess the radio station isn't sending out the RDS subsignal with their regular signal which contains the format information (song name, call letters, etc.) . However, if the same station pops up song info on your son's car and not your's when parked right next to each other then there may be some issue whereby a dealer needs to get involved. I know for a fact that some radio stations around me carry the RDS sub-signal sporadically--somedays they turn it on, some days they don't. And somedays I'll be listening to Britney Spears and it'll say David Allen Coe.
