Leaky seals on my 2008?

Leaky seals on my 2008?

Postby Irish » Mon Jun 16, 2008 2:30 pm

Hi everyone, I have a 2008 SLE Convert and it has 7,000 miles on it. (Got it in July 2007) I noticed a leak underneath & took it to the dealer today. Found out that the steering rack has leaky seals. I'm wondering if I did anything wrong or if this is an issue with these cars. Luckily, it is under warranty but I was told it would be an all day job & not drive it too much till parts come in. Is there any advice of what to look out for when the service is done? Thanks in advance for your help. Carolyn

Hey Carolyn,

Unfortunately your steering rack may have gotten a bad or nicked seal wherever it was assembled. It doesn't sound like a common issue at all (you can use the search utility to find any "steering rack" or "steering leak" issues.)

Rather than repair, your dealer will probably just install a whole new assembly so there shouldn't be any issues when the work is done.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply. I just got the car back this AM. They found an internal leak coming through the Bellows Boot? The steering rack was replaced. Thank God it was under warranty!
