I don't know about Gen2, but for Gen1 you need an OBDII scanner to reset the CEL, or you can disconnect your battery for "long enough" (15-30 minutes?)

Additionally: if whatever caused the code went away (ex: tighten your gas cap for one particular code) then it should go off automatically after enough run cycles. (3?)

The $100 I spent on an OBDII scanner was more than worth it. (cheaper ones are available) You can also go to most auto parts stores and get the code read and cleared for free

If you don't have the scan tool then just pull off the neg. terminal on your battery for about 30 minutes to reset the ECU. It will come back on again in a couple hours of run time if whatever caused it isn't fixed though.

If you're modding a lot then get a scan tool - best investment I've made for troubleshooting crap. I can even plug it in while I'm driving and reset the CEL on the fly so it doesn't disable my TRAC/VSC as well...
