Solara'04 compass in rear view mirror

I having problems with compass. It does not show correct azimuth,
I changed Zones, Done calibration.
Interesting to note that I need to hold two buttons on the mirror to get it in to calibration mode, but manual says I need to hold just compass button. So looks like the mirror I have is not original.
Any idea in which Toyotas this type of mirror was used?
Any quick fix for this problem?
I was driving with compass that has a needle and it works OK. Does it prove that car body is not magnetized?

Since mine is an '04 like yours we 'should' have the same auto dim/compass mirror (assuming yours is the factory optional mirror). Mine has two buttons like yours, one labeled "Comp" the other "Mirror"

Checking the instructions in the owners manual mine indicates only the "comp" button is needed for calibration but you may have to push it a couple of times to get into the proper mode then to set the calibration you have to press and 'hold' the comp button for several seconds then push the button again until your 'zone number' appears. Just let the mirror sit a few seconds without pushing anything to move to 'compass' mode.

If it's the direction that's off you need to press the 'comp' button until "C" appears in the display then drive around a complete circle at 5 mph or less. In my case I had to circle a couple of times before the correct direction replaced the "C" in the display.

As I mentioned above this supposes you have the OEM auto dim/compass mirror.

I followed this: http://cns-design.ru/files/solara/pdf/Mirror.pdf
page 11
So this is what I see compare these procedures.
If compass button pressed for a few seconds I can change zones. I can hold the button for minutes – compass never go in calib mode. But it will go in calibration mode if I hold the dimmer ON/OFF and compass buttons.
Also to note – when it goes in calibration mode, it flashes small words “calibration mode” and displays directions the same time. While doing circles, it shows South when the car faces S or N ?!. It shows SE when faced E, SW when faced W.
Never E or W
Did any one taken a mirror apart?

I’m planning to get the p/n of it and call dealer.

After digging around I found that the mirror in my car is Donnely with dim, compass and temp.
If you have one from the same manufacture you can find operational manuals here http://www.cipausa.com/ based features your mirror has.
It has helped me, hope it'll help you too

Thanks for posting the final explanation.

Having a non OEM accessory installed kind of makes a big difference in the way it functions eh?
