Clicking under the hood?

When you start up the engine
1. Roll up the windows.
2. Crank the stereo

Problem solved.

That's how I solve all of my noise issues. In the past I've had those clicking noises though I refer to them as ticking, my mechanic would spray some water or lubricant on the steering, alternator belts and it would dissapear until I changed the belt. Once it turned out to be the timing belt, diagnosed by a mechanic that uses a stethoscope to nail down noises. Could be anything. Could be dripping waer that sounds like a tick or a click, SO CRANK UP THE STEREO TILL THE ENGINE BLOWS and let this thread go LOW LOW LOW...

Maybe the car's pinging...because I think i hear the same noise and when i took it to a local mechanic...he said he thinks it's pinging...or engine knocking...it's weird because engines usually ping either when the car is really old or when you put bad gas in...for me i never put bad gas in my car...only premium

he told me to take it into the dealer so i did and the dealer told me it was pinging too. I was like WTF...he told me to just leave it because it wasn't a big problem. I thought this was straight up BS.

I just decided to bring it home and try to do some more research and take it back in. Even the owner's manual said to take it into the dealer if the engine pings.

Anybody have any ideas what I should do?

Man, sounds "lame' about your "stingy" dealership... my experience has been that warranty is granted even OUTSIDE the mileage limits in several instances I've had... I'd FIGHT for it, that close in mileage...

Good luck!

Hey everyone, I'm having a similar problem. My '06 Solara (35k miles) I4 is making these ticking or clicking noises too. Only it's not constant, it's a little random and it only happend when I'm idling. My cousin noticed it when I pulled up in the driveway one day, and I can't figure it out.

Any thoughts as to this one's cause?
