Not a "put it in D" kinda guy! ;) and have never had any problems to date using the downshift in an A/T to decellerate and use the compression of the engine to control both that drag and then punch with the RPMs already wound up to make a quick "slingshot" pass around someone.

I dunno - maybe it was the Skip Barber classes I took years back in Portland Speedway, but I've never had a prob. yet - in either American or Foriegn autos. ;)

My dad used to drive his AT like that... he had an American (Pontiac Grand Prix) and a 94 4cyl Toyota Camry that he drove like that... the Pontiac tranny died and he never fixed it... then the Toyota one he had rebuilt like 3 times...

IDK... just seems to me that brakes are easier to replace than a tranny... LOL

a 6spd in a V6 gen2? Huh?

Anyhow, in the Supra I'll let the gear slow the car down sometimes, other times I'll just take it out of gear and glide and brake.

Other times I do the aforementioned heeltoe downshifting. And I hate to brag, but screw I can drive that car. Heel toe downshifting around corners is the illest thing ever, whether it's a blip to revmatch at low rpms as you've been gliding to a stop or a heel toe at 45 to 2nd at 4 and come change and flying around the corner... I love driving that flippin car. The Solara is nice too, but it's just not a car you can REALLY drive... at least in anywhere near stock form.
