Moon Roof Question

Moon Roof Question

Postby BattleAngel » Mon Aug 14, 2006 10:26 pm

Has anyone taken off the stock wind bar thing that pops up when you open the moon roof? Mine rattles slightly and all atempts to silence it by stiffening springs, adding felt and so on have been in vain. Can this thing be removed without any problems? I do have the Toyota aftermarket wind deflector.

My car: 2006 SLE

Doesn't your wind deflector cause even more droning noise instead of eliminating when roof is open? I took mine off because it could not be positioned to improve the noise, but I found it to increase the noise.

I find no difference with or without the aftermarket wind deflector. It was quiet before and after. The only time I notice a deep wind-rumble is if I push the button to open the roof past where it automatically stops. I only open it up like that in town anyway so it isn't a problem.

The only problem I have had with anything related to the sun roof and noise is the damn rattle that appears after the car has been sitting in the heat or it is hot out. I never hear it in the morning-lending more weight to the fact that the springs suck and are not stiff enough.

I'm thinking I'll just remove the whole pop-up deflector and see what happens. I can see no reason why it needs to be there now that I have the aftermarket deflector.

Would love to see a pic of the positioning of your deflector. Speaking with others I've found they experience the same increase in noise that I did. Dealer said it's common. Maybe it's just a matter of positioning and yours is in the right spot. If you can take pics that would be great.

As for the spring thing, I would talk with dealer. I don't have any rattle with the pop-up bar at all no matter when I open the window. Maybe the dealer can replace them and that might take care of it.
