What a weird odometer problem

What a weird odometer problem

Postby Sebas007 » Wed Apr 12, 2006 3:28 pm

Hi guys,

I'll make it short...I have a problem with my odometer...the odometer do its job (after I reset the battery), but when I push the button to pass from Trip A to Trip B and then to see the total kilometers...still the same thing : nothing happens. It stays at the same position...it stays at Trip B. The problem come up after taking my car from garage. I ask them for a simple oil change and a wheel alignment.

What do you think it can be ??

Thank you guys

I know for the oil change they would have performed the oil change warning reset that involves the odometer button. Not sure what they did to it but check the owners manual. There might be some funky mode that they accidentally turned on.

I check in the owners manual around page 138 and talking of the normal usage of it. I looked for some other stuff, nothing. I went to Toyota dealership, he will command a whole new unit...he said that he cannot just replace this little part...

Thank you of your feedback !

They didn't set the odometer to your old reading?

Hopefully they put the new kilometers on the odometer- if not, good luck selling the car or trading it in. Tough to do anything with "not actual" mileage.

Don't worry don't worry....the mileage will be reset the old one...I think...

And no even the dealership don't wanna "know" it...Toyota asks the unit...dealership cannot open it to fix stuff in it. It's what he told me.

The dealer doesn't know what was wrong because they don't open the unit to check individual components. Toyota just wants them to replace whole module and send old unit back under warranty. This is typical electronic module repair process. Would cost them more to trouble shoot what is wrong rather than just replace the whole thing.

I feel I'm talking in some other world language sometime when I read reactions (yeah I acknowledge, I don't have it perfectly everytime...but my main language is not like your...that's it) . Even if I don't explain EVERY little things...I think that the main idea was there...anyway it is exactly what joebxr wrote
