Tint interfering with radio reception?

Tint interfering with radio reception?

Postby HID04V6 » Sun Mar 26, 2006 8:24 pm

I searched for this info for awhile and came up with nothing. I am thinking about tinting the windows on my car. I'm wondering if tint will interfere with the am/fm atenna that is integrated into the rear windshield of the car. I have xm in my car, so I rarely use am/fm, but it would be nice to have it still operable.

What year is your car? My antenna is arial, and on the back of the car.

I have seen others post that metallic tint can interfere with the GPS in the navigation unit, so I guess if it can interfere with that, then it could interfere with radio reception if it covered the antenna.

Search for posts containing "tint" and "nav" or "gps"

there is no way in hell that tint is going to interfere with a modulated radio signal... whether it be amplituede modulated or frequency modulated.

yes it is possible some relfective kind of tint will interfere with your radio and cell phone reception. your antenna is no the glass.

this information was provided by a respectful tint shop in south CA, California Tint, city of Rosemead

If you're asking for professional opinions, yes, metallic tints can interfere with the reception of antennae that are embedded in the glass.

HOWEVER, you can get non-metallic tint that should have no effect. Just ask about it when you go to the tint shop.

You have a convertible, which uses the arial antenna. The other models have it in the rear windshield.
