I had a similar problem too. after hitting a bump i would feel a slight the steering wheel shake a bit and there was a slight rattle. the strut was loose and they took care of that. i do, however, hear a echo like thump coming from my passenger rear wheel suspension or compartment. it really gets to me and my dad after a wihle but no one else hears it cuz we can't describe it well enough. Parkway Toyota's service is excellent becuase I know the technician behind one of the desks :D

I seemed to be getting the same problem a couple of days ago when the weather warmed up; however, I'm going to give it a week or so to see if it persists.

Update:
My problem is back, and the dealership is seeing more problems with the Solaras, as well as the std. Camry models. They have discovered what one of the earlier posters mentioned: a defective intermediate shaft in the steering column.

I'm returning to the dealer a week from today for a loaner while they replace the part.

I'll let you know how it goes.

just had my intermediate shaft replaced at 40k kms. what a relief. was driving, no pun intended, me nuts. thought is might be trd springs. tapping felt thru steering wheel on light steering inputs and slight road irregularites. service tech's didnt believe me at first few requests to check because they drove and turn the wheel left-right vigorously and it cannot be felt that way. it did get worse until they were able to "feel" it. my solara now makes me feel good to drive and feels like new.
