2006 Owners: Hesitation problem?

Postby PXLpainter » Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:51 pm

Dang - hope someone comes out with some kind of shift kit or reprogramming module for the '06 then SOON!

I DocJohn's vacuum mod today and took it out for a spin. I've noticed some improvement - but that's the weirdest thing of all... its very inconsistent! Sometimes it burns rubber and sometimes it takes up to two seconds to finally kick in! When you're trying to pull out in heavy traffic that can mean the difference between merging safely and getting slammed in the @$$ by a truck!

Even when using the Sport Shift mode, there's often hesitation between 1st & 2nd; 2nd & 3rd. Like I said - its inconsistent.

Sux. This car has so much more performance potential than what I've experienced in the 2 weeks I've owned it. :(

TSB = Toyota Service Bulletin (do a Search - there's a huge list online)

The ECU is the car's "brain" and re-flashing it is like re-booting and updating your home computer's OS (kinda). ;)

Just to tell you that TSB is not for toyota Service Bulletin like I thought also but for Technical Service bulletin...most car company have their own TSB. I concluded that after viewing the TSB on www.alldata.com. By the way I have the same problem too with my '06 SE V6...some said that it will be always a lag because of the drive by wire...but reading what those '04-'05 guys said, reflashing the ECU as the TSB TC006-005 said, bring the car to respond directly to the pedal !! It's the only point I dislike of my '06 Solara for now...when I push the pedal I want a instant response for what I ask...breifly I want more sensibility from the gas pedal ! If you hear something about resolving our problem....naaa I'm sure you will post-it !!

Definitely sounds like the same ECU problem I had before the TSB reflash. I would hit the pedal and never knew if I was going to go or just sit there for 2 or 3 seconds. It was fustrating, and as you said, it could be downright dangerous in certain situations.

I would take your car into Toyota Service and complain about this problem. Tell them even if they won't do anthing to fix it, you want the complaint entered into your cars service record so if you get into an accident as a result on the throttle hesitation, your attorney can subponea the service record compaint to use in the lawsuit. Maybe that will at least get the service dept's attention  and maybe they will actually try to fix the problem for you.

Crap! I hope I dont have to go to the point of getting into an accident to get this fixed!! :o

I am going to take it back in next week though and complain about it - see if there's anything that can be done NOW before its too late!

Oh - and yes, I stand corrected on the TSB - it is Technical Service Bulletin - not Toyota SB. Duh.

I'm guessing Toyota has formed a bit of a repeating lifecycle. When enough complaints come in for the programming in the '06, they'll make a TSB for a reflash with more aggressive shifting/acceleration. Probably their way of making the mellow folks happy and then dealing with the more power hungry folks (like us) later. I'm sure there are lots of folks out there running the OEM '04 ECM firmware and don't mind it. Toyo likes that firmware because it's easier on the car = less warranty issues. Make sure you register your complaint with the dealer and Toyo corporate so they get to work on a TSB for you guys.
