Chrome Decals on Stereo and Air Vents

Chrome Decals on Stereo and Air Vents

Postby geminiz » Fri Dec 30, 2005 11:45 am

I notice on V6 and SLE models, the stereo and air vents have chrome decals on them.
Does anyone know what they are made of?
Is there a way to get a hold of them?

Here is a pic that I took from prodigy79's cardomain site.

The air vents in the picture look like black plastic. I didn't know you could get a Solara that doesn't look like the picture.

he's referring to the little tab that let's you slide left/right, and move up/down... the end of it has a chrome/silver trim.

I would guess you would have to order the entire vent assy from a Toyota dealer. I don't think you can just order the chrome tip.

sorry for not elaborating clearly.
I like the look of the chrome pieces use to control the vents and also on the volume and tune nobs. I was wondering if there was a way that I can get those chrome pieces. I've talked to the parts and accessories department at the dealer, and the person there said the only way to get those is to order them for only the people who has the solara that came with those (V6 or SLE models).

The chrome pieces on the A/C air vents are standard for SE Sport and SLE modles. I don't think you can buy it anywhere. As for the one on the volume control, it's for the JBL system.
Hope that helps!

P.S. the solara in the picture is actually SE Sport with JBL system. Not SLE!

geminiz, my old radio (pictured) was, indeed, the "JBL" radio, and my car is the SE Sport V6 (the V6 is not necessary for the chrome accents). I'll take a closer look at the vents to try to determine what they are made out of / how they are secured... Going through Toyota on this issue is probably not worth the cost / effort / confusion... you may be better off finding some good quality chrome tape at an art store or something and carefully cutting out the trim strips. I believe the factory models with the chrome accents (SE Sport / SLE) are actually chrome plated.

I'll try to look further into this.

I would say you found a lazy parts guy. I don't think he wanted to take the time to look up the part #. Again, I would guess that you would have to order the whole vent but I'm sure there is a part # for the vent! The same is the case for the radio knobs. I worked in dealerships for almost 25 years, and I can tell you, on late model cars, the factory has every part that is OE. You just have to find someone willing to help. Sometimes finding part #'s are not as simple as it seems.

I'm not sure if I want to drive to another dealership and ask if they would sell the chrome accents for the vents and nobs, since I do not have the "JBL" stereo. Is it really worth the trouble, I'm just afraid that they will say they don't carry the pieces by itself, and making it cost a lot in the end.
I was thinking exactly what prodigy79 was suggesting, but I don't think I can get it perfect without having edges overlapping for the nobs. Thanks for looking into it for me Prodigy79. Do you want to sell me your vent accents and nobs? Just kidding =)

Happy New Year!!!
