Black convertible top

Black convertible top

Postby drace99 » Sat Dec 03, 2005 7:38 am

I have a black 2004 Solara convertible with tan top. I am thinking of changing to a black top. Does anyone want to trade their black top for a tan top(only tops in mint condition) or does anyone know of a good place to buy and possibly install new tops? Thanks
Mike

P.S. Or should I leave it alone?

I can't help you with a trade, but I'm having my top replaced on Monday and I can give you some costs on them. A new Toyota top without the headliner is $2400. An aftermarket one is $766. The labor to do it is $432. The people at the shop said it will be an all day job. Good luck
When in doubt gas it out, brakes just slow you down.

honestly I think that your car would look kewl with the black top.. it is a pricey process.. my mom has a convertible stang.. red with a white top.. they just put a black top on it.. and it wasnt cheap.. but it look better in black!.. if you got the cash to do it I would .. what color is you interior?? if its dark I woud go for the darker top.. IMHO

Personally, I would leave it alone for now. See how it looks like in a few months. If it deteriorates rapidly, than change it, otherwise, I think it makes a nice, contrasty color combination. The color is not as bright as on other cars (white, cream), and the material seems to be of rather good quality, so it may last you for a good while. Also keep in mind that if you decide to replace the top at a third party shop, that would probably invalidate your warranty (at least items related to the top and the opening mechanism.)

Never been a fan of the camel top on any color car. Image But that's just me.
So I wish you luck in your search and if you can't do it cheaply and reliably, consider a trade in for an '06 that's languishing on the lot. You'll take a one time hit but have another new car that looks the way you want.
